The incidence of murder, robbery and rape has increased this month compared to the same period last year and in 2006.
A comparative distribution by type of index crimes data collated by the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) showed that while there is a 17.4 % decrease in the incidence of index crimes in the first three weeks of January – murder, robbery and rape has gone up.
In the first 22 days this year, the police recorded a total of 6 murder cases, from only 1 and 3, of the same period last year and in 2006.
Twenty robberies were also reported since January 1 compared to 17 and 6 cases in 2007 and 2006, respectively.
According to the PNP, there were 3 rape cases since January 1. During the same period last year, police recorded only one incident of rape and two in 2006.
SHOOTINGS IN CITY
The PNP likewise highlighted 6 shooting incidents in the city, three of which are attributed to youth gang-related conflicts.
Two of the shootings resulted to death of the victims while 4 have been injured.
Police claimed three of the 6 shooting incidents were already solved. The cases happened between 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., except for one which took place at 2 p.m.
BURGLARIES IN CITY
The PNP likewise recorded six burglaries in Tagbilaran since the start of the year.
All of these cases have not been solved, the police bared.
The robberies occurred between 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. all victimizing so-called “soft targets†or targets of opportunity, police said.
According to the PNP, all six targets of robberies were without security alarm systems, 2 have security guards, and were discovered only after the next day. The loot mostly consisted of valuables and money.
The BPPO reported an overall 28.2% decrease in crime volume for the first three weeks of 2008, compared to the same period in 2006 and 2007.
Index crimes decreased by about 17.4% while non-index crimes also decreased by 41.8%, the comparative data showed.
