Six Boholano political detainees, including the so-called 'Buenavista 5", observed a "solidarity fasting" with all similar detainees nationwide last Friday at their Bohol District Jail.
In a press release statement, the group demanded for the "release of all political detainees in the country" as allegedly promised by the GRP (Government) in the 2001, 2004 and 2007 peace talks.
The "Buenavista 5" is composed of leaders or active supporters of HUMABOL, a legitimate farmers' group which has been accused by the military of wrongdoings.
They likewise called for the resumption of the aborted peace talks between the GRP and the NDF (National Democratic Front) - last held in Brussels - to find a permanent solution to the war-like engagements in the country. The Group also urged President Noynoy Aquino to make a strong categorical statement against the activities related to Oplan Bantay Laya.
The detainees claimed this has been "the cause of political harassment and deaths of progressive activists.
The jailed personalities also called for the immediate release of the "Morong 43", a group made of medical practitioners and their supporters accused of rebellion. They specifically cited the case of Carina Judilyn Oliveros, of the "Morong 43" who should be given the necessary 6-month leave to take care of her newly-born child - based on internationally accepted human right norms.
So far "she has only been given three months hospital arrest", the group indicated.
The six political detainees are Florencio Quino, Antonio Sanchez, Edwen Lofranco, Ruben Busalanan, Rodrigo Mejeias and Elpidio Tagsep.
