MANILA, Philippines – AJ “Bazooka†Banal suffered a ninth-round technical knockout at the hands of veteran Thai fighter Pungluang Sor Singyu in the main event of Pinoy Pride XVII.
Referee Tony Weeks deemed Banal unable to continue the fight after the Filipino suffered a knockdown in the ninth round.
Sor Singyu improved his record to 42 wins and one loss and took home the WBO bantamweight title.
Banal, on the other hand, fell to his second career defeat in 30 fights.
In the undercard, Rey “Boom Boom†Bautista notched a hard fought split decision victory over Daniel Ruiz.
Meanwhile, Filipino junior welterweight Jason Pagara made short work of Barbado’s Miguel Antoine, winning by knockout in the first round.
Also triumphant was Michael “Bruce Lee†Domingo, who stopped Ugandan boxer Mudde Ntambi Rabison in the second round. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, October 21, 2012
