SP bats for Cabilao power

       Cabilao, which maintains her world class reputation as a diving site, will soon be energized.
       In a resolution he authored, Vice Gov. Edgar Chatto asked the Philippine Coast Guard to allow the installation of a power line across the channel to the island.
       Sangguniang Panlalawigan Kagawad Tomas Abapo, Jr., who sponsored the measure, said the electrical connection from mainland Loon to Cabilao has a maximum vertical clearance of 50 feet.
        The request of the provincial board corresponds to the intent of the Bohol Electric Cooperative I of totally energizing the island.
       Cabilao is a part of Loon, which is the hometown of Gov. Rene Relampagos.
Boheco I presently provides the island a generator set that can only operate six hours daily from six in the evening until midnight.
       The system cannot technically generate power continuously for 24 hours everyday, since it is simply a standby unit, aside from its being costly to operate because of the escalating diesel fuel price.
       Stringing a power line up high and across the Cabilao channel has been regarded as safe from any navigational hazard.
       The Cabilao channel is regularly navigated by fastcraft and ferry boats.
        Cabilao, which has five barangays, is dominantly a fishing community which livelihood can prosper once there is a total electrification in the area.
