Conceded as the most modern church in the province, the P12-million edifice will be consecrated and blessed at three o’clock this afternoon. Officiating at the pontifical mass and blessing are Bishop Leopoldo Tumulak of the diocese of Tagbilaran and Bishop Emeritus Noel will be the principal speaker. The other speakers are Aumentado, Fr. Tabigue; and Mayor Manuel Alesna, project executive director.
Atty. Jacinto V. Mendez, Ubay’s leading philanthropist who donated P1.6 million for the project, will deliver the response on behalf of the donors composed of leading foreign and local contractors, businessmen, government officials and employees, Ubayanons in abroad especially in the United States and Canada, Cebu, Manila and Mindanao, devotees of Senor Santo Nino and the masa in Ubay.
The modern church can accommodate about 2,000 persons seated in striking benches of steel and lumber components without the donors' names.
The parishioners of Ubay headed by Aumentado decided to build the new Santo Niño Parish Church, one of the biggest and modern in Bohol, after they found that the former church was too small and dilapidated already for the most progressive municipality in the province. the former church was inaugurated sometime in 1975 with Aumentado as the EXECOM chairman also.
