Dimiao, Bohol Marikina ink sisterhood pactPublished December 9, 2001 by Bohol Sunday Post -
DIMIAO is now a sister-municipality of the City of Marikina.
This after Mayor Sylvia Adame and Marikina City Mayor Lourdes Fernando the other day signed a covenant of sisterhood, friendship and cooperation at the Lakeview Park in Marikina.
Fernando and the Marikina officials and employees hosted a banquet for the Dimiao delegation headed by Adame and Estong Oberes, president of the Dimiao Association of Metro Manila.
A highlight before the signing ceremony was the singing of the Dimiao hymn with the accompaniment played on a cassette as Adame and Oberes raised the Dimiao flag.
The effort to establish its identity earned praise from their Marikina counterparts.
The bond of sisterhood between the two local government units (LGUs) was emphasized during the presentation of the rationale. Applause met the mayors as they signed the covenant, sealing it with an exchange of tokens. Adame gave Marikina a ceramic tile with the official seal of Dimiao embossed on it.
As the city officials shook Adame's hand, she invited them to return her visit. She is now drawing up plans for activities that they can jointly undertake, designed to benefit their respective constituents.
