What did i do today? Hmmm..treating a lot of patients suffering from HSV2 (Herpes simplex virus type 2) otherwise known as genital herpes. Mao na, kamo tanan, be careful who you let kiss you sa kuan ninyo ! Mag protective sex gajod kai you don't know what that other person has.

Had a patient with a ruptured penile chancre , caused by haemophilus ducreyi. very large ulcer lesion on the shaft of his penis. we prescribed him with a nucleoside analog (acyclovir). the mechanism of action is to stop viral dna replication.

Ang mga bata diri sa united states are so very open sexually that these sexually transmitted diseases are like so common. young patients in their late teens and early 20's. my goodness !

i said to one patient, "what are you doing to get this?"

Today my sister came by to pick up some supplies from my apartment that I won't be taking with me to my new place. I gave her 2 AC units, some decorations, cleaning supplies, my stainless steel cooking wares, my cutting knives, some furniture and some food supplies that I did not want. It was good seeing Inday today...exchanged some personal talks and asked about how she's doing in her medical reviews. I missed my little sister and it was good to see her today. Unsaon lageh, we all grow old, and we all have to make our own print in the world.

Dear Lord God, please watch over my sister and guide her footsteps in Medicine. Make her the best physician that she can be. And remove any and all worries she might have, fill them with strength, prudence and perseverance. Guide us both, Lord. I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

there was a gray kitten meowing at my feet inside the boat so i picked it up and decided to take it home. the boat's kitchen door opened a crack; i looked in and realized that they were cooking live kittens, directly frying them alive. the gray kitten i picked up had escaped from the batch.

arrival at the port of destination. it was an unfamiliar place. i went to an unfamiliar house and took a bath, at which point i let go of the kitten in my arms. soon i was looking for the kitten and couldn't find it anywhere.

balik ko sa barko. all 3 girls women were still there. kita pod ko sa crew nga busog kaayog mga hitsura kay gikan nangaon ug fried kittens. guol kaayog mga nawong ang 3 tb girls kay sila mismo nakakita sa ilang pagkaon.

nagdala na kog papeles kay gikiha na nako ang crew ug captain. gitulisok lang ko sa captain kay wa kuno siyay kahadlokan. arang gajod. ang iya pa ra bang uniform, morag sinina ni magellan. atot na lang.

then i asked the 3 tb women if they have seen the kitten that i wanted to take home. they did not. asa na man pod tuod si lorenz? he didn't take the trip with us, they said. lorenz just passed by us at the port of departure because he was on his way to surgery of his throat. oh-oh. arang gyod ning damgo uy. no rhyme and reason.

i woke up in tears over the lost kitten that i wanted to rescue, imagining that it will be fried by those crewmen next.

di na gyod ko mag-afternoon nap if i can help it. i almost always end up with very bad dreams.

yesterday my brothers and i went to walmart to buy some house supplies. bought a new door mat (a colorful one that says "welcome"), some cleaning supplies, car supplies, food supplies etc. what was supposed to be only a 30 minute shopping trip turned out to be an 1-2 hour trip looking around at the things on sale. my younger brother don don went to the storage box areas. he was adamant in finding plastic boxes to store his game consoles, he doesn't want them to just be left in the open in our basement. kani lagi si dondon he has so many game systems. in fact he has every game system that i think ever came out: nes, snes, sega genesis, n64, gamecube, xbox, playstation, playstation 2, playstation 3, xbox 360 and other older systems. mo ingon sija, "these are true collectables, kuya. i have to have them."

hahaha!

my youngest brother, si andre, and i went to the electronics section looking at the new plasma and led tvs that were on sale. i saw the 60 inch samsung plasma tv , with wifi capabilities and all the gadgetry associated. it was priced at $1,900. Not bad. Ingon si Andre, "Kuya...that would look good in the living room..."

bitaw. i thought. i'm going to get that as their christmas present this year. it will be a good tv for them to play their new xbox one game console that they're also going to get on christmas. hehehe!

So, as we were putting things in the cart, ingon pod si andre nako, "kuya, so, are you going to leave us again, soon?" ingon ko, "yes, 'doy, going back on thursday." wa sija mo tingog. and i started to feel nostalgic for them already. so i kissed my little brother's forehead. ingon lang ko, "its okay. you can always text , call me whenever, for whatever..okay."

we got back home at around 10 pm. i cooked steamed broccoli and beef sabao for them last night.

i love them so much. and i'm glad i was able to come home to visit and spend some time with them.

andre has grown. he's now my height.

gahapon i took my baby bro andre to his guitar lessons. he goes to guitar lessons 3 times a week for 30 minute sessions.

afterwards we went to the guitar center (its a local guitar store) with don don. i was so amazed at his skills. i asked him and don don to play something for me. andre is skilled in acoustic guitar and electronic guitar, whereas si ondoy don don is more into the bass guitar. don likes metal music whereas si andre likes soft rock, alternative rock. hehehe.

na kujawan gajod ko nila duha. i'm so proud of them! i think they're both like their ate angel because kani lagi si inday angel...very artistic pod.

I just finished one doctoral class, Psychology of Leadership. Today starts the first day of my next class called Doctoral Statistics. Seems good so far. Today's lecture was based on variance and variability. I'm going to take advantage of the IBM SPSS skills lab , this will be useful during the dissertation process later on.

Today's lecture was on the variance of hypergeometric distribution and hypergeometric formulation and the equations are as follows:

Variance of hypergeometric distribution = Ïƒx2 = n * k * ( N - k ) * ( N - n ) / [ N2 * ( N - 1 ) ]

Hypergeometric formula: P(X = x) = h(x; N, n, k) = [ kCx ] [ N-kCn-x ] / [ NCn ]

Our professor for this course has a Ph.D in Statistics and another Ph.D on Industrial Engineering. He thinks this course is easy kono. Jati-a pod! Some of us are doctors and not mathematicians / engineers.

I had the pleasure of meeting the acquaintance of a classmate, she's taking this course with me and she's enrolled in the Ed.D in Educational Leadership. I was humbled by her work and professional experience ! Not only is she the single mother of 3 children, but also she's a principal of a major technical school here in Chicago. She is working full time as a principal, mothering 3 children and going to school full time for her Doctorate in Education. Inspiring !!!

Today was a very productive day: cleaned up and set up my new apartment in the morning. Afterwards, I started my weekend with doing literature reviews. I'm now looking at possible topics for my doctoral dissertation. Starting early. After talking to my academic advisor, I am looking to start applying for grant providers for my research process. O man, talk about overwhelming stress lol!

I didn't know we had to do grant application process pa gajod. I now have a new-found respect for all Ph.D scholars and Ph.D doctoral learners that are further into their dissertation process as in -- post-grant phase. LOL!

Gi ahak. I just finished reading published dissertations from several doctoral learners. Why is it that their dissertations are anywhere between 250-380 pages long? Looking at the statistical analysis part -- quite daunting. Shiet. LOL. I have to really master multivariate statistical analysis. Sakit ahoang ulo.

Thanks to Dr. R. Smith, PH.D for allowing me to read his doctoral dissertation....

Btw, excellent flow chart pod ijang gi use. This gives me an idea on what to implement.

Dr. Smith is now a post-graduate neuroscientist researcher based in Chicago's finest teaching hospital.

I am honored to call him a colleague and friend.

btw, for those who have never experienced the arduous journey that is the doctoral dissertation phase, we have to go through the IRB , Institutional Review Board, which is usually a 3 phase part. Citation , specifically APA format, is mandated and critically enforced.

For those who are interested in going into research / grant writing / scientific scholarship, don't ever fak around with citations.

Last week I attended a mandatory seminar for all Ph.D students -- regarding the ethical use of citation.
