Oh you like Chinese food eh? He he he ! What did you have that was good? Chicken lo mein?

I had 3 boiled crabs, Japanese seaweed, beef roast, egg drop (2), meat ball, chicken wings (4), mussels in cheese (3), lo mein, fried rice. Today I ignored the different sushi, raw oyster and king crabs. No dessert pod kay sakit na akong tiyan hahaha. Tagbaw lagi...

I feel that I've been given more blessings this week, thanks God for the blessings. The university which I work at part time as a clinical adjunct professor has offered me a position to be the Assistant Director of the Department of Allied Health & Nursing. Thanks be to God for this blessing.

It will be interesting to handle my clinical clerkship and this position he he he !!

I ate my leftover Chinese early this morning (combo fried rice) pero gegutom gehapon ko pagka lunch time. I bought a Fuji road bike today for $500. It was on sale and I had saved $300 from the original price. I can't wait to try it out this week in the bike trails in Chicago.

My mom also recently planted her plants in her garden sa likod sa among balay sa New Jersey. Planting her roses, and her tomatoes, peppers, beans, kamungay, cucumbers and etc make her happy.

Came back from a long day at the hospital. Then stopped by the university to receive the syllabus for the next class I will be teaching beginning on the 12th of June. I'll have some 22 students in this class. I picked up my check also. So , pretty happy today.

Today, I stopped by the LAND ROVER car dealership to see what kind of cars are out for lease / sale. I'm thinking about getting the 2012 Land Rover LR4. I need a new SUV for the city. I am thinking about the LR4 because gwapo kaayo ang design. Plus, it is exceedingly spacious sa sulud. Gwapa pod kaayo ang driving, it is so very smooth to drive.

Impressed gayod ko sa Mitsubishi. I currently own a Mitsubishi Montero, very good bitaw ning ilang engine, and also their safety. You did a good job in buying Mitsubishi.

Nin tan-aw tan-aw ra lang ko. I have to look around for other SUVs, because na kulbaan ko sa presyo sa LAND ROVER LR4. The sales rep said that I can get a standard LR4 with base ammenities pero ang starting cost kono is $49,000. This does not take into consideration the sales tax and everything else. Sakitan ahong dughan og ahong pitaka just thinking about the cost!

Mo save up pa ko in order to buy this...he he he

Today at work, I saw a patient who was wearing a T-shirt with a frog hugging another frog. I don't know why, but I automatically thought of Bai Hubag Bohol. I was smiling for a while. My patient said, "Is everything alright, sir?"

It's so hot today. I just got back from duty, and trying to organize everything in my scheduler so that all is well this week. I'm also planning everything so that I have at least 5 days off on the end of June. I'm excited because my family is coming to visit me here in Chicago. My mom, dad, brothers Don and Andre as well as our doggies, Kaiser and Pippa, will be driving from New Jersey to Illinois this June. I'm so excited to see them. . As for my baby bros, i'm planning to give them a tour around downtown Chicago. Hapit na raba ang birthday sa ahong youngest brother, si Andre. So , am trying to shop for his b-day presents.

Something about titles really dissaude me. Is it wrong? I was talking to a colleague, Dr. Susette, and got annoyed at how she kept on calling me, "Dr. Lucino". I said to her with a straight face, "Susette, please, just call me Lorenzo. Enough with the pleasantries or titles." Even with my students who I teach at Northwestern , I prefer them to call me by my first name.

The sum of my fears is to be unapproachable because of a mere title. I hope that no other doctor will find my views reproachable and disturbing. A bit unorthodox, but heck, its my view.

This weekend was busy for me. It was a culmination of finishing work, preparing for a final exam I need to give my students of my advanced electrocardiophysiology class at Northwestern. I prepared 100 questions; 50 questions based on theory; 50 questions based on interpreting the ekg rhythm strips and proper medical treatment.

I am waiting for the end of this week. My parents are driving to Chicago to spend some quality time with me and my sister; am very excited to see them. It will be a break from all my duties as a physician / adjunct university professor. Who ever thought that one would get "tired" at one's responsibilities eh? Hectic ra kaayo ahong schedule this year, it will be a nice break to get to spend some time with my parents and drive to wisconsin with them and also drive around the surrounding states.

For a week or so, I won't have to worry about medical / teaching duties. I get to relish being around my mother, my father, my brothers. My beloved family.

The burning and yearning passion of my heart calls for my family. To whom I have missed so very dearly.

I was talking to a friend of mine about some heart breaking experiences in the floors. One topic was about pediatric oncology. She was describing to me a situation in which a patient of hers had died in her arms. The patient was an 8 year old patient who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The patient passed on right in front of her. During the conversation, my friend, a fellow hospital physician, started to cry. I clenched her hand during the conversation and presented a stern yet supportive embrace. I felt how traumatic it was for my friend to have lost such a young patient, and one who my friend developed a close bond with.

It is quite perplexing to think that lay society think that doctors are immune to feelings and to emotions. In this field, it is so hard to separate feelings and to try to suppress emotions as it can affect one's professional responsibilities.

In any case, physicians, too, need to cry and to let out emotions. In the end, we are all human.

Why is it that in the hospital we are barred from talking about God and one's faith, but when a patient asks a physician or clinician, "Can you pray for me?", we are instructed to say, "Yes, I will", even if a physician does not believe in a particular deity or subscribes to a particular religion?

Why are we , as medical providers, trained in medical school not to talk about religion, spirituality, yet we attest to the fact that patient's spirituality actually increases their survival time and increases healing time?

Oh the hypocrisies....

the paradox is that physicians are expected to be unemotional; it is impossible to be unemotional or not affected by the loss of a patient.

thanks isles. just some of my thoughts in regards to the health care protocol. we are not supposed to be religious at work, however, when a patient asks to talk about God , we have to agree to talk or refer them to a social worker.

i guess one thing that gets me is that why is it so bad to be spiritual or religious?

Today , after medical duty, I headed towards Northwestern and began a concrete review for the nursing students who are studying for their NCLEX examination. I was given a new syllabus to begin a new ATI TEAS review course for the new batch of incoming nursing students. This batch of nursing students will quite potent as I am expected to lecture to some 26 students. I already know that with such a number, I should already be ready for all the intrigue in class. After receiving my syllabus today, I talked to Dr. Maria about the new schedule for this coming month were I am to assume the position of Assistant Director of Allied Health Department at Northwestern. I am quite expectant at the same time very nervous with the responsibility it entails. I'm ready tho. Was very happy to see some of my former students now already getting ready to graduate their nursing program from Northwestern. I cannot help but smile when they say to me, "Dr. Lorenzo, we're almost done! Just 1 more course to go!"

Ma lipay pod ko gajod. I know that these students will go far in life and I do hope and pray that their patients will benefit from their sympathetic care and their kindness.

this was yesterday... banana republic and i invited a visiting couple from europe for lunch. knowing the taste of the woman, we opted for a five-star hotel restaurant. we have a gift certificate for a certain restaurant in that hotel, anyway, we thought. it turned out that that specific restaurant opens at 5pm. that left us staying put at the hotel's massive lobby restaurant.

it was an eat-all-you-can fare, with a price that could have brought tears to my eyes were i not a performance artist.

at four figures a pop, i thought it's a price that would be a windfall for those street people down the street (unfortunately, i'm beset by this kind of math because i do know those people by name).

might as well make the most of this, i decided, even as i thought of a friend who once deadpanned, "if we should not waste food because there are the hungry so we have to finish everything on our plate, would those hungry ones feel full?"

This morning I had breakfast with babycakes prior to going to work. We were talking about possible project in opening a medical clinic together either in Chicago or perhaps in Michigan. Hmm, na sakitan pod ko when i found out how much it will cost to start a clinic. $350,000 just to start a clinic. But i think it is a good investment.
