Came back from a 16 hour on-call shift. Its really beautiful outside, the sun is shining and the people are enjoying the beach.
But a life of a medical intern does not permit such luxuries. Ours is to learn, and to painfully steal ourselves away in the pursuit of learning.

today i finished 3 lectures on : cardiovascular system, respiratory system and lymphatic system. tomorrow i present on these 3 chapters , then on to hospital duty for a couple of hours. tuesday is going to be interesting because i start my EKG lecture. its not bad instructing other health care providers/ health care students. it really applies one's knowledge on to things.

i have to get ready for wednesday. i'm driving home to nj for a 5 day vacation. namely, to attend my younger brother's high school graduation and to meet up with some good friends.

too sad....

i terribly miss my cat who was under our care for almost 13 yrs. Two vet. Who examined her gave her the final infusions, injection and other meds.. Gave her up, she had cancer. I miss and love you dear muschi.

Thanks, Fr. Roel! My sister is coming with me back to Chicago (she starts her clinical rotations pood this summer).

My youngest brother, Andre, who is 11, is now 5'6 and 120 lbs. I was amazed at his growth spurt! He jumped at his kuya and almost pummeled me to the ground. haha. Na daku naman sila kaayo.

Dealing with my clinical rotations, then the graduate work for my Ph.D is intensive. I have to prepare another lecture today for other students on the essentials of electrophysiology , then later on to do more medical board reviews.

these are what i call the "beautiful struggles". onward to the pain and the blood, toil and sweat!

Today was spent cleaning and washing clothes, washing and vacuuming my Mitsubishi. Fresh na kaayo sija. After a long day of errands, I enjoyed the lake view with evening fireworks.

Now is truly a beautiful week.

Am now enjoying an iced chai latte at Starbucks. Delish!

Today as I was coming back from errands, I was approached by a homeless man asking for money.

I looked at his fingernails and saw that he had spoon-shaped fingernails, which are indicative of Oxygen saturation deficiency. Etiology was probably untreated cardiomyopathy.

Government here should do more for the homeless in the streets. There should be more programs for aid for the marginalized.

Yesterday was the first day for Advanced EKG. A student of mine, in her late 40's, came up and said to me, "You're our professor? You're too young!"

Ning respond pood ko, "Age is nothing but a number."

Ha, ha, ha. Overall, they are a good batch. It really is very rewarding-- to be able to teach and give back what you know to students.

The good thing about medicine is that one can practice -- and one can also instruct. Both aspects are very rewarding.

This past weekend, I discovered Ravenswood Bookstore close to Andersonville, Chicago. It's a little book store in the corner; filled from top to bottom with old books. Their military history genre is amazing. I took some pictures.

Close by, i found a very nice wine store. Sauvignon blanc, anyone?

I am excited for today. I am awaiting the arrival of my Father, Mother, two Brothers and our dog, Kaiser. They are driving to Chicago to visit my sister and I. I'm planning on taking them out tonight and showing them around the city, the hospital I'm stationed at and etc. Daghan kaayo ibuhaton karon. Tinuod gayud ang saying : "Home is where the family is..." Ug mo anha imohang pamilya nimo, ma feel gayud nimo nga naa ka sa balay.

thanks too. homing these rescued cats and kittens is actually another problem. i can't have them all, painful as the thought may be. had i been in the same city as you, you can be sure i will be at the hospital's gate with a kitten for you. so far, i have some bit of luck here. those gentle jehovah's witnesses who knock on my door have been convinced to take two kittens. yipeeee!

As I type this, I am surrounded by my family. Si mommy, daddy, si ondoy andre, si ondoy don-don, si inday angel, og among iro si kaiser. arang lipay ko kaajo. there is no words that can describe how my heart is just so very happy-- abounding in joy and love being around my beloved family.

How many months I have been separated from my family because of work, and studies. Thanks be to God, I Glorify you, Lord Jesus Christ for hearing my prayers and granting my requests.

Today was a good day, I took my new puppy "Pippa" out for a stroll after cleaning up the apartment. Getting my files and paper work ready for another intensive week. I'm not going to try to overstress myself with work, the secret to balancing work and study is finding that balance.

been a victim of murphy's law today.

banana republic had to report late for work because he had to accompany me to the animal shelter to get our cat who's been under observation for four days now.

he had to tell the driver who fetches him to just go ahead to the office without him as i will be the one to drive him to work in a little while.

the driver leaves, but had to be called back because our car wouldn't start. diagnosis: battery drained. i've forgotten that i haven't used the car for five days straight.

i take the office vehicle of the banana republic, something that i hate doing, to the animal shelter to fetch our cat.

smiling, i asked for our cat, but the vet tells me that the cat had to stay longer for more days of observation. she may be suffering from feline schizophrenia. heavens!

i search in the internet. huhuhu. there is such a thing as feline schizophrenia, after all.

she's a very sweet cat. i can't believe it. kamo bay naay iring nga mabuang, lalim bah! huhuhu.

Just came back from an errand to fill up papers. Thank God today is Sunday and 'Labor Day Weekend'. Wala yamo hospital duty ugma. I can actually rest and spend some time with my puppy and friends ugma.

Ugma, maluuy ang Ginoo, maka adto ko sa Simbahan. I missed Sunday Mass karon kai nag duty man gud ko ganina.
