thanks for the tips. what i'm doing now is mixing 75% candle paraffin and 25% beeswax, mix in a dash of hardener, luster crystals, oil-based coloring and oil-based scents, put in the ref for 30 minutes, and voila, i have a candle that won't melt in any weather (thanks to the hardening additive), except of course when the wick is lighted.
i will continue to experiment so i could eventually come up with what i may like best. so far, there are designs that i won't bother about again, like the big one that uses ice cubes in the mold. it's weak and cumbersome.
