To my beloved kababayans, and bayanis,

I am in the Philippines. I arrived in Manila International Airport at 10:35 PM (Philippine Time).
I am now in the Philippine Domestic Airport terminal 7 waiting for my flight to Tagbilaran City.
My flight leaves at 5:05 PM and I am scheduled to arrive in Tagbilaran at 7:00 AM.

It is surreal. I am finally here in my beloved land of my birth: The Republic of the Philippines.

My heart is so happy. I opened my eyes for the first time in 12 years and saw the lights of Manila City and breathed in the air of the Philippines.

I am Home.

To God be All Glory!
Thanks be to God!

On my flight from Detroit, Michigan to our stop over to Nagoya, Japan--then to our connecting flight to Manila, Philippines--I befriended two other bayanis who helped me in the Manila International Terminal. Thanks to Sharon and Herbert. Thanks for the well wishes, Sharon, and I hope you have a great time in your 3 week vacation in Pampangas. To Herbert, I hope you have closure in burying your father this week--and make it home safely by the end of this week. Thank you for making my flight to the Philippines easier, positive, and filled with laughs and jokes.

God, in his ever loving heart, hears our prayers and thoughts. He sure did make my flight journey fast, and stress-free. I am sure it was with the help of Angel Raphael who kindly heard my little prayer.

My eyes are looking south--to the direction of the shores of Bohol. To my beautiful Chocolate Hills. To my beautiful Valencia...

Truly there is no place like home.  :)

Thanks be to God.

Dear sister Raquel,

Thank you for your kind and helpful advice. I will sure do just that when I arrive in Bohol. 20+ hours on a plane sure does something to the body.

Love and Thanks,
Bran

Culture shocked indeed!

I arrived in Tagbilaran City at 7 AM by the 13th of July. My uncle gerard, the head of security at Tagbilaran Airport, saw me as i got of the airplane. I shouted, "'cle Gerard!" He was shocked! We locked in embrace and laughed. After which I saw my Mommy Wella (younger sister of my father, Engr. Rico Lucino), who is the DILG Director in the region. I will then get in contact with the rest of the group as soon as i have time.

I spent most of my day visiting Valencia (back and forth) and Tagbilaran. I have both sides of my family in Tagbilaran and in Valencia.

On the 15th of July I visited the cemetary in Tagbilaran to visit my Uncle Roy, Mama Luz and Papa Titing. The 15th of July was the 15th death anniversary of my Mama Luz. I was able to sweep the grounds of their gravesite, got some flowers and candles for them. My uncles and aunts and cousins came with me for the visitation. I miss them. I was in tears. I was at ease. I could feel peace. Uncle Bayoy was there.

Today on the 16th, I visited Valencia again to visit my Lolo Ciano and repair my truck. Changed tires, and preon for the AC. I also was able to visit my lolo Nating (the late Mrs. Fortunata Tan Salvo) and my other relatives.

I went to Barangay Anas, Valencia. Salvos. Salise. Valencia.

I went to the church of the SENOR SANTO NINO DE VALENCIA. PIT SENYOR!
PIT SENYOR! PIT SENYOR! :)

I am home. It has been so long. Its crazy how alot of people remember me but i do not know them; so many relatives, so many titas, titos, cousins, etc. I am truly at home here.

Bohol. Ang Yuta Na Natawhan.

The past 2 weeks have been filled with so much memory. We had a double celebration on the 23rd; my birthday and my Mommy Wella's. Today is the day that my uncle, Dr. Renee E. Lucino, will arrive to Bohol. He is currently based in the UK. So much to do. I feel as if 1 month in Bohol is not enough. Hoping all is good.

Best,
Lorenzo

Yesterday I went to Manga, Tagbilaran City to buy fresh fish, and supplies for kinilaw and sinugba. I ordered fresh seaweed for salad and i must say that the sights and sounds of the fish market was overwhelmingly fond. It is inopportune to have an American accent here, they recognize my accent and even with my binisaya, they still manage to target me as an OFW. lol.

That said, i still love the place. Love it.

I visited more relatives, and cannot believe how much I have missed in 12 years of my absence since my last visit in 1998.

I plan on going on a 2nd Bohol drive this weekend. Then manage to stop by for the derby/sabong/sunday school. :)

Early this week,

I was introduced to some young physicians whom my uncles know of. Young women my age who asked of my background. It was good to connect to individuals of the same background. Medicine. Veterinary Medicine. Nursing. Nice.

I was able to befriend a Dr. Omo and Dr. Opo of Ramiro Community Hospital and Tagbilaran Hospital here in this fond little city. I also found out that Dr. Omo was the medical director of my Uncle, Dr. R. Lucino, who is a Surgeon-Internist based in the UK. Interesting how everything intertwines.

Dr. Omo fondly asked me, "Are you related to a Dr. Renee Lucino?"

I replied, "Yes, of course. He is my uncle."

We both shared laughs and a fond discussion.

I am leaving for Cebu City this early afternoon. I should arrive there by 2 pm Philippine Standard Time.

I will be meeting with some of my relatives in my father's side there.

And of course, to check out SM and Ayala. :)

I should be meeting up with some good friends at Cebu Doctors ; some of whom are medical interns.

Next stop: The Queen City of the South.

 ;)

I am glad you were able to visit my dear Manga, Dong!  Manga Public Market is one of the best market places in Tagbilaran where you can buy fresh seafood, veges, meat and kakanin!  Did you buy syakoy there, too?

I am currently in Cebu City. I arrived here on Tuesday 1:40pm and have spent the time exploring the sights and sounds of this beautiful and booming metropolis. Am staying at the Crown Regency Hotel, which I must recommend to all incoming foreign tourists and or OFWs. I spent the good time with my cousin Jing and my baby cousin Daniella touring and swimming in the pools, visiting the cafe shops, and the malls: SM Cebu City and Ayala Mall. Am loving it here.

I should be arriving in Bohol this Friday.

I was able to visit the Basilica Minor to the Blessed Santo Nino De Cebu. My Pilgrimage to the Blessed Child Jesus is complete. My prayers and wish to visit and see Him was granted. Pit Senyor!

Hoping for another good week. Regards to all.

From meeting him, and from our brief conversation, I will agree. He is caring for my grandfather, as the Internist in Tagbilaran Community Hospital. I went with my Lolo to update his medication regimen as well as the status of his G-TUBE, which I personally changed without needing the help of a surgeon and a surgeon's charge.

The tube I brought home from the states and the service for free. The hospital was going to charge us 7k pesos for a baloon g-tube and 5k pesos for the surgeon to install it. I installed it myself without having to pay such fees.

That said i will have to say that the CRs (bathrooms) in Tagbilaran Community Hospital and Ramiro Hospital have to to be updated. It is unsanitary and can propagate nosocomial infection spreads. I say this as a Medical Intern.

I addressed this to the medical administration there. I hope they can address the situation.

Dear Pare,

It is my great pleasure to read your daily life activities.  Very interesting, indeed! I was touched..  12 years (on the 13th of July 2010) the most awaited day to breath the missed  Bohol air again. The overwhelming joys meeting your longed old and new relatives in Valencia and Tagbilaran. I could just imagine how you feel being here sharing laughters, attending family gatherings (eat, eat and eating again..our Pinoy favorite traits)  ;D  Full booked  ug busog gjod.  Hope you`ve get enough time to make EB with some of our TB friends who are at the same time here for holidays. Fr. chicogon is desperately calling you in your given tel no. in Tagbilaran. He will be leaving on the 10th of August 2010.
So far, I wish you for the best of your 4 weeks holidays and stay in good health!

Today is my last day here in Cebu this week. Yesterday I had breakfast with my cousin Jing at Hebrew's Cafe and then picked up my little cousin Daniella (who is from the UK) and took her to SM City Cebu as well as swimming around. Daniella really amazed me with her British Accent and her spirited nature. Wherever we went to the mall she would always hold her kuya Bran's hand and thten i realized she did not have a bracelet. I got her a lucky jade bracelet in one of the botique stores here in SM City Cebu.
She made me smile how she said that my voice and the way i looked was similar to that of her daddy (my uncle), Dr. R. Lucino.
I realized how i want to be a father in the not too distant future. I would not mind having daughter(s); i think i would probably spoil them with a father's love and protection. (just as a side note!). I am leaving for Bohol today at 2 pm. Am excited to go back to the island.

Let it be known that i miss and love my beloved mother, father, brothers and sister. I miss them dearly.

Love and kisses to my loved ones!!!
With all my all,
B.L
