That Said,
I am quite excited for my trip to the Philippines this 11th of July. And with that will come the tastes, flavors, sights, sounds of the country that I have not visited in almost 12 years. A country that I have always wanted to know more about and explore, and I find myself almost at a state of hunger--for the spirit of things Filipino. Growing up most of my life in the United States, I can say that I was somewhat isolated from Filipino culture (besides my parents and my family, who were pivotal in retaining a Bol-anon awareness in us children) and it is this void that has driven a passion within me to explore and understand more about my culture, my people, my country, and my language (specifically Binisayang-Bolanon). I joined this forum in 2007 to tap into that 'Home Culture' --a culture that I have so desperately wanted to touch, taste, listen, see, for so long.
Being a member of Tubag Bohol Dot Com has truly exposed me to the language of Bisaya, the colloquialisms, the political situation, the demographic situation, a better understanding of the religious role in society, and the history of the Island of Bohol and the Philippines as a whole.
My trip to the Philippines this Summer is a cultural and personal reawakening so to say of my Filipino-hood. I am quite excited, a bit nervous, but at the same time, happy to be going back home. To go back home to an island, a province, a town, and a people that I have been linked to by blood, and where my roots run deep.
So the journey begins..
Lorenzo
