Fellow interns posing to capture the 'study' mode. Note they are posing lol.
My friend Raul and Vivek

My friend Anthony took this picture (action shot) of some of my colleagues and I at a Portuguese Wine Bar.

Cheesy smile indicates I am happy for some reason. ha ha

All of us.

puahahaha! You are referring to our friend Abhisitanathan or as we joke "Dr. Abi" haha. He is a very good guy, we are coffee partners. During breaks we and a group of guys take a much needed 30 minute break from work to chew the fat. :)

Btw, he is a 1st year medical resident. His father owns a medical hospital in Hyderbad, India. He is my age, but he is quite affluent. Does not show it off tho. Good guy, great friend, and a great Doctor.

Dr. Merala (neurosurgeon) and Dr. Raul (ortho). Taken during break time. Hahaha

So Doctors do have lives.  :P

Myself, Dr. Barone, and another Medical Intern posing. Dr. Barone was our Medical Pathology Director. GREAT instructor and a great doctor.
He is actually a medical pathologist from Hollywood, California who works and does rounds in major hospitals in major cities in the USA. Newark, being one of them--incidentally where I was stationed at.

I would like to say that I will miss some of my friends that I've made in Newark, tho some of them are being sent to different areas for clinical rotations, and for residency matches. One realizes how much one can connect with a person in such a short time due to the hours we have worked with each other. Tho there were times that I found myself at odds with some during clinical debates and cross-referencing, three things are clear:

1. In medicine, one does not expect to always agree with everyone
2. Cross referencing and comparing with 2 or more other medical minds is never a bad idea; sure it may hurt the pride of some, but so long as the wellbeing of the patient is secured--all fair play.
3. Networking--networking--networking. In Medicine, networking is--crucial. I learned this and have implemented this to my advantage.

That Said,

I am quite excited for my trip to the Philippines this 11th of July. And with that will come the tastes, flavors, sights, sounds of the country that I have not visited in almost 12 years. A country that I have always wanted to know more about and explore, and I find myself almost at a state of hunger--for the spirit of things Filipino. Growing up most of my life in the United States, I can say that I was somewhat isolated from Filipino culture (besides my parents and my family, who were pivotal in retaining a Bol-anon awareness in us children) and it is this void that has driven a passion within me to explore and understand more about my culture, my people, my country, and my language (specifically Binisayang-Bolanon). I joined this forum in 2007 to tap into that 'Home Culture' --a culture that I have so desperately wanted to touch, taste, listen, see, for so long.

Being a member of Tubag Bohol Dot Com has truly exposed me to the language of Bisaya, the colloquialisms, the political situation, the demographic situation, a better understanding of the religious role in society, and the history of the Island of Bohol and the Philippines as a whole.

My trip to the Philippines this Summer is a cultural and personal reawakening so to say of my Filipino-hood. I am quite excited, a bit nervous, but at the same time, happy to be going back home. To go back home to an island, a province, a town, and a people that I have been linked to by blood, and where my roots run deep.

So the journey begins..

Virgil,

It is quite exciting. Yes, you are right, there really is no place like home. When I arrive to Tagbilaran, I will have to take advantage of the sites and sounds in the city before making my visit to Valencia.

Have a safe flight and a great trip home to Bohol too! Perhaps we can meet up.

Warm regards,
 :)

I will be in contact with you in the coming days.

he he he, I will take an extra picture of the Beautiful Chocolate Hills just for you, Ging. :)

I must admit that I have never tried the so called taho nor the so called coffee places in Bohol, which I'm hearing from cousins.

I cannot wait to see my Nanay Millie (my grandfather's 1st degree cousin) who raised me when my parents were abroad when I was a child.

I can remember the time when Nanay used to sew all my clothes, my pajamas, and how she made the best Sinigang and Pinakbet (she cooked it Leytena Style--because Nanay is from Leyte). :)

I cannot explain how happy and excited I am. Bohol truly is my Home.

Sadly, I am still bearded. To the protest of my father. I might have to trim it for he joked "Maka ingoon sila anak ka ni Misuari!"

ha ha ha. Joke.

See you soon Manay.

I'll  hold you to that... :-)

Taho is just tofu pudding with caramel and tapioca. The Vietnamese makes a decent comparable product called Tofu Pudding. Not as good....maybe its the dust and grim in Tagbilaran that gives it its distinct flavor ? LOL  8)

I can't say anything about the coffee places since i don't frequent it much. Actually, I haven't been to any in my last 2 trips. PIcs of my high school barkada look good in FB though.

My hitlist aka craving foodwise

Jjs Seafood Village - Patatim, chop suey, pancit Laureate and fried bread

Port of Tubigon - muron

Streetfood - Tempura, Taho and green mangoes with spicy uyap

ICM - ramen from rai rai ken, halo2  and lemongrass tea from Bee Farm

Fiesta Food - lechon from Leda Saco, their dinuguan and inatayan is yummy too.

darn....i'm getting hungry and its 2am.  :(

:) I will try my best to honor the promise, Ging.

I am ready for my cross -province drive. I will try to document all (if not most) of the Churches in all the towns of Bohol. I am planning to visit the municipality of Loon and their beautiful Church there.

Thank you so much for the list. I will take all of it into consideration.  :D
