Last week, a friend of mine (Amy) who used to study at MSU (Mindanao State University) got reconnected with her room mate (Debbie) thru Facebook. Debbie told Amy that her husband was from Bohol. I was introduced to Debbie and learned that one of her sisters in law hailed from Taloto, my dad's barrio. I got so excited because the family name (Penaflor) was one of our relatives in Taloto. To cut the story short, her sister in law, Aunt Matie who is based in the Bay Area was indeed a relative of my father's family. In fact, she and her husband, Uncle Ador, are the long, lost godparents of Alyssamarie aka smiffytheninja!
Debbie invited me and my friend Amy for a dinner Saturday evening. When I went there, to my surprise, Aunt Matie and her husband was there too! It was one nice evening of recollecting our dear Taloto. She told me that her and my father were classmates in Taloto Elementary School and when she left Taloto for US, Dad was still single. She hugged me like she has seen a long lost niece!
We promised to see each other again very soon.
my friend Amy and Lee McBride, John and Debbie Auza, Ador and Matie Auza and si ako. The Auzas hail from Balintawak, Talibon.
After our dinner, we went for a mile walk to go to the bank of American River. It was one enchanting evening! It's a small world after all!
