By the Bohol StandardConstantly under criticism of alleged poor quality hospital services, in competence, mismanagement, among others, doctors of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) appealed for understanding from the public.
“We have been doing our best despite being under staffed, lack of resources and other limitations. We are not superman and just like any other persons we have also feelings that get hurt,†doctors in the government hospital said.
Hospital chief Dr. Nenita Moraga-Po said she does not agree on accusations of incompetence and mismanagement citing that even other government hospitals conduct their Lakbay- Aral Study Tour to see and replicate what has been done here.
Four departments of the GCGMH, the Surgery, Pediatrics, Pathology and OB-Gyne are duly accredited by the Medical Specialty Board.
The head of the OB-Gyne Department Dr. Ma. Delia Maluenda particularly appealed to the media, whom she said always crucifies them, whenever complaints are brought to the radio.
“We have few resident physicians at GCGMH and I am very much concerned on their sensitive feelings that may result to their mass resignation when media unfairly condemned them,†Dr. Maluneda said,
She recalls that in 2004, all of the hospital’s resident physicians resigned after and incident of alleged negligence when an infant fell to their floor during delivery.
Two weeks ago, the OB-Gyne department again figured in another incident when it was accused of favoring patients and security guards roughly treating patients’ relatives at the ward. The hospital was also rocked by another issue of a patient who allegedly died in a comfort room while waiting to be attended by doctors.
Dr. Maluenda said she herself is thinking of also resigning from government hospital work, if this unfair condemnation continues.
