Boy Scouts to tap ‘bugsay’ power Boy Scouts not only have fun doing civic and outdoor camping activities.
They were challenged yesterday to be life achievers using the “bugsay†philosophy like determined fishermen.
The call was made by Roberto Aboitiz, president of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and CEO of the Aboitiz Construction Group, who was the guest speaker in the annual meeting of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Cebu Council held at the Ecotech Pavilion in Cebu City.
Row hard against the waves to reach your destination and achieve your goals, Aboitiz said, as he flashed Powerpoint images of a lone fisherman at sea, paddling his boat. (Bugsay is a Cebuano word for boat paddle.)
“Like the fisherman, we all have our bugsay. It is the power to act that we all possess. It’s our ability to achieve results,†he said.
Aboitiz said the basic elements were having a clear destination, a plan, effort and the right attitude.
“With your bugsay, you have accepted responsibility in this world. What you achieve depends largely on what you decide to do,†he said.
Attitude, leadership, and determination should be developed in each person, he said.
Aboitiz was later given an award of recognition for his undying support for the BSP.
