"With all the work you do," Cardinal Spellman was asked one day, "do you ever get so tired that you forget to say your prayers at night?"
"No," Spellman replied with a smile. "When I'm so tired I can't keep my eyes open, I simply say: 'Dear God, you know I've been working in your vineyard all day. If you don't mind, could we skip the details till morning?'"
Spellman, Francis Joseph ["The American Pope"] (1889-1967) American Roman Catholic cardinal
