The Lord God Hates Divorce
« on: May 22, 2009, 11:46:34 AM »
The LORD spoke:

You flood the MY altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. 14 You ask, "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.

15 Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring.  So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

16 "I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself  with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty.

So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.

--Malachi 2:13-16

Jesus Christ's Views On Divorce

"And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery."

-- Mark 1:1-12

"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."
--Mark 10:7-9

Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so."
—Matthew 19:8

Then why they allow divorce?

And the people asked Jesus: "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?"

The Lord Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts! But it was not this way from the beginning.

9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."

All the answers to our questions can be found in the Bible, Misty.

Everything--EVERYTHING that is mentioned and taught to us in Old Testament, Our Lord Jesus Christ teaches and reiterates.

He does not tell us to break the laws. He fulfills the Laws.

Jesus Told Us:

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
--Matthew 5:17-20

You are right, Misty.

We as a people are very hard headed. Even in time of Moses, the people were hard headed. Gahi kaayo ang ulo. :)

God Almighty--brought down the plagues on Egypt, he set forth the wirlwhind of fire against the chariots of Egypt. And the Israelites saw this.

Then when the Whirlwind died, the Egyptian charriots ran towards the Israelites. Again the Jews forsook the Lord God, telling Moses, "God has forsaken us!"

So to prove again that God was with them, God opened the Red Sea with his hand and allowed the Jews to pass through on dry land. And when the Egyptians followed suit, God Almighty unleashed the sea on them--drowning the entire Army.

And still the Israelites broke His Law!

Moses told them to wait while he talked to God to receive God's Laws.

And all the while, the Israelites decided to carve a Golden Calf! Can you believe? After God saved them and delivered them from centuries of bondage, showed His wonders and provided them with water, and food--they still worshiped a golden calf.

:)

How faithful is Our God. And how sinful are we!

Of course The Lord God said for us to love. But to properly place Love. And Jesus HIMSELF reminds us the preciousness of the Sacrament of Marriage. He reminds us that Marriage itself is a Vow. And precious is a Vow made before God.

Jesus reminds us that Vows are not to be broken:

"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No ,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one"
--Matthew 5:33-37

Jesus Christ reminds us:
And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Matthew 19:4-6

So as we see, Jesus Christ, did not change nor did he move away from the messages he proclaimed as heard in Old Testament. As the Son is One with the Father. And from Father and the Son--proceeds the Holy Spirit. Three Persons In One God. The Holy Trinity.
It was Jesus--as His Father who told Abraham, Noah, and all prophets of Old of the sanctification of Marriage. His message has not changed at all.

It is man that changes. God does not.

And He does not. For He is the Same from Beginning, To the Present and to the End of the Earth--still He will be Everlasting The Same.

Wala moy kalibutan kon unsaon ang kinabuhi sa magti-ayon nga dili na magkasinabot. I´m glad there is divorce here in Germany. It was no use to stay together longer if both parties are not willing to stay as loving couple together.  It is a lot of suffering, purbida kon ang husband alcoholic unya kwarta awayan kada adlaw, maholog ug patay.
Going straight following the catholic path is really thorny, but I´glad I´m divorced and I know that the Lord cares for me.

Tita Tess,

I just came back from mass today and had a talk w/ Fr. Ranulfo, my parish priest. And that is exactly the message he told me during confession. That we are all called to be saints, but once and a while, we will sin and err. Part of being human. Ang glad to know that your faith in God's Saving Grace is unchallenged.

For his mercies are from everlasting to everlasting. Even if we so happen to sin.

:)

The Peace of Jesus Christ Be With You All, Brothers and Sisters.
In Jesus Christ The Same Lord.
Amen.

First of all, no matter what view one takes on the issue of divorce, it is important to remember Malachi 2:16: “I hate divorce, says the LORD God of Israel.” According to the Bible, marriage is a lifetime commitment. “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate” (Matthew 19:6). God realizes, though, that since marriages involve two sinful human beings, divorces are going to occur. In the Old Testament, He laid down some laws in order to protect the rights of divorcees, especially women (Deuteronomy 24:1-4). Jesus pointed out that these laws were given because of the hardness of people’s hearts, not because they were God’s desire (Matthew 19:8 ).
“Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.

It is distressing that the divorce rate among professing Christians is nearly as high as that of the unbelieving world. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and that reconciliation and forgiveness should be the marks of a believer’s life (Luke 11:4; Ephesians 4:32). However, God recognizes that divorce will occur, even among His children. A divorced and/or remarried believer should not feel any less loved by God, even if the divorce and/or remarriage is not covered under the possible exception clause of Matthew 19:9.
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Again, it is up to the individual to practice discernment. It is up to the individual to realize in his or her own heart what the Lord personally feels about the issue.

---

There is no debate. No contesting.

GOD is absolute in his message;
“I hate divorce, says the LORD God of Israel.”
--Malachi 2: 16

God Bless You All.

Here is the Catholic church position on divorce;

The Lord Jesus insisted on the original intention of the Creator who willed that marriage be indissoluble. He abrogates the accommodations that had slipped into the old Law.

Between the baptized, "a ratified and consummated marriage cannot be dissolved by any human power or for any reason other than death."

If civil divorce remains the only possible way of ensuring certain legal rights, the care of the children, or the protection of inheritance, it can be tolerated and does not constitute a moral offense.

Divorce is immoral also because it introduces disorder into the family and into society. This disorder brings grave harm to the deserted spouse, to children traumatized by the separation of their parents and often torn between them, and because of its contagious effect which makes it truly a plague on society.

In my opinion it was never talked about  the mental anguish and the breakdown of nerves if a marriage malfunctions. It is only the moral and spiritual aspect which play an important rule but the reality is harsh, the church gives no concrete help during these moments of agony. I´m still for divorce.

Thanks for sharing and reposting what The Church's stance is in regards to the Sacrament of Marriage.

The Church stands with the message of Matthew and Malachi.

To God be the Glory.

this is a good thread so you will hear the side of some members who had had divorce.
In my opinion women nowadays should strive to be financially independent, not competitive but  to be financially secure. Ajaw jud mo ug salig sa inyong bana/partner labi na kon kwarta ang hisgutan.

Very sensitive topic because kinsa bay magdream ug divorce. In my own view divorce is not sin but to divorce and remarry is a sin.
Marriage is a sacrament that is indissoluble. Once a valid marriage has been consummated, It endures until one spouse dies. Jesus taught that marriage is a lifelong and exclusive union between a man and a woman.  To have a valid marriage a Catholic must marry "in the Church.
For people whose marriages have broken apart. It often happened against their own will. They have made every efforts to save their marriage. Sometimes these people will give an heroic testimony by continuing their own fidelity, in spite of the choice their spouse made. This is hard, but very admirable.

Almost 8 years married. I was married in St. Mary Assumption Catholic church last September 8,2001 both parties were single never been married and proudly preserve purity until the night of the wedding.
So far so good. Our marriage was very blessed, very happy and financially secure and in perfect harmony with God.We follow God's will for us and He is in control. Never remember we have fight or even argue.Me sulking and sometimes upset but forget later. I can't imagine a couple  going through divorce I'm sure it;s horrible.

Divorce

"It has been said. "Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce. But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an aduteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery."

Matthew 5:31-32

AGAIN, I say AMEN!

Despite personal remarks, the WORD of GOD will not be silenced.

Praise be to the Lord God who is MOST HIGH.

For all the husbands out there, stay faithful to your wives.
For all the wives out there, stay faithful to your husbands.
Love one another.

For marriage is the sepository of good laws, and righteousness of God.
From good tree, dost the children bear fruit and learn from.
---

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; 26 that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless.
-Ephesians 5:25-27

This is the most beautiful verse in scripture that resounds the same message as in Malachi.

It is beautiful to read that the message of Old Testament and New Testament are in union, in adoration, and unchallenged, when it regards Marriage. The bond between man and wife.

God tells us in Malachi that He hates divorce.
And he perfectly and divinely stamps his seal of approval
with the reference of Christ Jesus --dying for the church.
And referring to the Church as Christ's partner in ministry.

Christ did not divorce the Church.
On the contrary, Christ died for the church. so that salvation would be guaranteed and completed.
And His ministry propagated.
For the SALVATION of souls.

I agree.

:)

When man and woman join together. They are no longer 2, but 1. Joined together in the sight of God The Father.

So, what God joined together, let not man break and tear apart.

AND JESUS SAID:

‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?  So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

--Matthew 19: 5-6

Solid answer. From My Savior's Own Mouth.

God's Justification:

14  Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
--Malachi 2: 14 –16
