Speaking In Tongues
« on: October 30, 2009, 07:02:19 AM »
Brothers and Sisters,

To those who are Christian: Catholics, Orthodox, Baptist, Coptic, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran etc,.

Who here has been to Church and in the beauty of that particular mass or heraldic event, was reduced to fervent glorification of God in Jesus Christ and in The Holy Spirit?

Several weeks ago, I attended a Pentecostal Church and saw through my very own eyes and heard through my very own ears members of the church, as we were praying to Jesus Christ LORD, being touched by the Holy Spirit. A member next to me, and in front of me were touched. They started glorifying and were speaking in tongues.

My IMMEDIATE response was amazement. As a Catholic, I am not used to seeing this. But over time, I was touched. Two days ago, as I was walking my daily routine, I want to share a touching event with you all.

As I was walking, I made a personal prayer to Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Then my prayers were muffled as I felt touched by the Holy Spirit. The hairs of my back rose, and I kept on repeating, 'Glory be to the Name of Jesus,' time and time again, and there were times when I could hear that I was speaking in tongues.

In the end, brothers and sisters, I was so very touched.
It was an experience like no other. Powerful jud kaayo ang experience.

This was my first experience in Speaking in Tongues, and I wanted to know lang which among you, here, fellow friends, that are Pentecostal or Protestant that speak in tongues when in prayer or are brought to it through the Holy Spirit?

Yours In Christ,

Brothers and Sisters,

Speaking in tongues is at first, very scary and powerful at the same time. For you are truly touched by the Holy Spirit.
Pray for it. Pray for the experience.

It is biblically said that we should encourage prayer and prayer in tongues.

Praise be to God.

Yours In Christ,

Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

The apostle Paul addresses this tongue speaking (or glossolalia) when sorting out the recalcitrant Corinthian church. The brethren there were scrambling to outdo one another by exercising spiritual gifts. Paul (I Corinthians 14) laid down rules - rules ignored in modern practice, as I had experienced:

   1. all spiritual gifts are inferior to love - the prime fruit of the in-working of the divine Spirit (I Cor. 13)
   2. gifts are divinely dispensed to benefit the whole assembly (I Cor. 12:7)
   3. gifts are dispensed individually by God's sovereign will (12:18) and no-one has all of them (v.30)
   4. far superior to speaking in an unlearned language is the gift of `prophecy' - edifying the assembly in words clearly understood (ch. 14:19)
   5. the gift of `tongues' [languages] is not for the benefit of the converted (v.22)
   6. in public worship those who exercise it are to be limited (v.27), and are to speak one at a time to avoid confusion
   7. it's public use is permitted only if someone present has the supernatural gift of interpretation (v.28)
   8. gifts are not spontaneous but are under the control of the individual (14:32f)
   9. Any individual or church professing to have and promote the gift of speaking in tongues must be judged by these criteria.

For Roman Catholics, it is good to note that the first pope, Blessed Peter the Apostle, himself, recognized the power of the Holy Spirit in the gift of tongues (Speaking in Tongues).

Do read:

Acts 10:44-48 “While Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”

catholic groups do have these charismatic movement...praise and worship involves upbeat music and speaking in tongues-praises. the most active groups nowadays are the Charismatics, CFC and BLD (Bukas Lood sa Diyos)...most of their worship songs end with speaking-in-tongues praises.

^^

Brother, it is good to know that we are part of global movement, a  youth movement. The Fervent Evangelization of The Holy Mother The Church! I love it.

My friends Albert, Job, Shalabh, Eric and myself sing in our Church Choir (Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church) and we have been introducing new Christian songs to the praise songs in church, thanks to the compliance and acceptance of Fr. Ranulfo, our parish priest. Who himself is very new and post-Vatican II in mentality.

In my belief, there is nothing wrong when one sings loudly in church, and raises one's hands to the sky in reaching for the Holy Spirit's Eternal Grace.

If you really really truly absolutely clamor for His presence, and Glorify Him, He will fill you with His Holy Spirit. Powerful and spiritual experience. It is when you know that your prayers has really reached the Judgement Seat of Christ.

GOD IS GOOD...ALL THE TIME..
