REFLECTION FOR THIS SEASON OF LENT ( from pare neo)
« on: March 01, 2009, 05:38:18 AM »
AFTER  a Life in Spirit Seminar (LSS) a man comes home spiritually renewed. On the road he sees his former drinking buddies and is tempted to join them. But he prays hard " Lord, cover my eyes" And he passes right by them.

A few meters after, he sees his former gambling buddies playing tong-its. Summoning strenth he prays once again " Lord, cover my eyes" and he passes right by them.
                                                       ***
Then at the end of the road, he sees a beautiful, shapely woman. Unable to resist the temtation to look, he blurted out: "Lord, cover your eyes"
                                                       ***
Temptation is an ever present reality in our lives. Even the Lord Jesus was tempted as the gospel of this Sunday shows. Temptation are not only those of the flesh, but also of injustice, dishonesty, pride and greed.
                                                       ***
In temptation the devil seldom appears in the stereotype image of a horrible half-man, half-animal with horns and forked tail. He could appear in the form of a well -dressed man with pleasing personality who sweet-talks you to cheat or do evil like approving an anomalous contract or dangles a bribe before you.

The devil could also be a charming lady, say, in the office who seduces you to be unfaithful to your wife.

Lenten Question
Q: Why are the forty days called Lent?
A: They are called Lent because that is the Old English word for spring, the season of the year during which they fall. This is something unique to English. In almost all other languages its name is a derivative of the Latin term, or "the forty days."

Lenten Action.
Think of a person with whom you have a strained relationship and make some gesture toward improving that relationship.

Prayer
Direct our actions, Lord, by your holy inspiration and carry them forward by your gracious help, that all our works may begin in you and by you be happily ended.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
Amen.
