My remark:Peter, filled with the joyous exaltation of Christ and the Holy Spirit, declared to walk with Christ. He walked on water because he saw Christ, was inspired to be with Christ, yet, when the winds and the storms blew all the stronger, began to loose faith. And began to sink. It is important to note that the lake, as the object being walked on, is the symbolism of the journey of faith. Christ, being Salvation and the Goal. The winds and the storms represents the world. The world is against faith, and will try its best to counter the faith in Christ, will test your faith, and will do its best to deceive those who believe. Since the world belongs to satan, may God rebuke him, it will always counter and try to counter the message of Christ and Salvation.
Peter, as a sinner, as a man, begins to doubt when troubles were around him. As a man, he was attacked by the devils. But his faith perfected what his mortality limited. He cried out, "Lord, Save Me!"
This, this very action, is the testimony and manifestation of fortitude, wisdom, piety, and knowledge. This request, nullifies the very instances of worldly attacks. For it manifests the believer's trust in Christ. In God. You see, Christ knew that Peter would doubt, He knows everything. He is the Alpha and the Omega. But despite Peter's lacking and questioning faith, Christ saved him.
Matthew Chapter 14 verse 31 declares,
"Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him!". Christ also reminds Peter, "Oh you of little faith! Why do you doubt?"
When Christ tells Peter this, He tells all of us this. You see, Christ told Peter to 'Come to Me'. It is a command. When he told Peter this, He promises protection, counsel, and most of all His unquestioning Love and Care. Peter doubted , and because of this, resulted in his sinking. It is a sign to us that even the apostles, even Peter, the first pope, even himself doubted. But Christ reminds us in this that it is human to doubt, and reminds us to shear away from doubt if possible, and instead, trust in Him.
Peter, in this case, is the proto-Christian. An individual who yearns to be with Jesus, but is tempted, attacked by the world, but Christ's Word and Promise, and Action declares and Re-Assures us that He will be there to save us.
When Christ tells Peter, "Oh you of little faith! Why do you doubt!", He is also telling us this. And He reminds us, to believe in Him.
Just as he saved Peter from the waters, so will He save us....if we trust and call out to Him.
Blessings of Jesus Christ Our Lord be to you my brothers and sisters,Lorenzo
