The Law and the Promise

 15 Brothers and sisters, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case. 16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ. 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

 19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator. 20 A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one.

 21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law. 22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

God has given us His creation to display His glory, but that is not enough – there needs to be an explanation of that creation. Paul is telling us preaching is the means of grace that helps us toward belief in the redemption of creation. Jesus was stretching the imagination of the Jewish listeners. To love your enemies is to acknowledge that God loves them too. This is another way of saying that there is hope for anyone. No matter how evil or unrighteous someone may seem, the sun still shines upon them. We are challenged to live in the love of our heavenly Father, who wishes for none to perish and all to come to repentance.

This verse is , indeed, very true. The body is frail and prone to sickness when there is too much studying and not enough spiritual contentedness. This verse reminds me, and all of us, that when we commit to studying (for our academic pursuits and or leisure), we should also give thanks to God for giving us the ability to pursue our studies, giving glory and thanks to Him above all things.

God reminds us in the proverbs time and time again that we cannot do anything ourselves, but through Him who strengthens us in our pursuits. In the pursuit of knowledge , we tend to fall into the array of thinking we know alot (i know that i fall into this category at times). It is integral that we ask God's blessings and support. We cannot do it by ourselves, and if we do try to do out ourselves, we suffer spiritually and mentally.

In the book of Proverbs these scriptures show us how goodness affects others in a positive way. Wickedness always leads to destruction, while righteousness edifies and builds up. Verse 25 gives us instruction on how to help someone who is depressed by giving them an encouraging word. Many people today are "stooped down" with the weight of the world on them. As Christians, we should not be numbered in that lot. We should ask God daily to fill us with His love and joy so that we rise above whatever pressures we feel from our circumstances. We can always give others a lift if we are walking in the spirit, as we will have the Lord's love and strength. Just smiling at people and giving them a kind word can make a difference in someone's life. I recall an incidence when I was checking out in a grocery store line, and I simply thanked the clerk and said, "God bless you and have a good day." Tears came to her eyes and she replied, "Thank you so much, that is the nicest thing that anybody has said to me all day." We may never know how a simple and loving word makes someone glad, just as this scripture says.

Verse 26 tells us that the consistently righteous man will live his life in such a way that he will be a good example to his neighbor, and by his actions he will be able to guide his neighbor. On the other hand, the wicked man through his evil actions of seduction will cause others to go astray. Some neighborhoods will have one family that causes trouble for the rest of the people that live there. Many times they are trouble makers and try to stir up strife between the other neighbors over something they do not like. We must pray for these kind of people and reach out and try to overcome evil with good. We can have a positive influence with Christ's help in our neighborhoods that can change the whole atmosphere of our community.

As Christians, we should not shirk our civil duties. Some Christians seem to think that we should not be a part of the world, so they never become involved in any political or civic activities. If every Christian followed this reasoning it would leave the government and administrative jobs open for only sinners and immoral people to rule in our governments. This is not what the Lord meant when he told us to separate ourselves from the world. Scripture is telling us that we are to separate from our worldly and unclean ways and that we are not to do the sinful things that those in this world practice.

This verse , a rather beautiful and splendid verse, deals with our roles as witnesses for Christ and in Christ. Given the times we are living in, dear brother and sister, we should always hunger and thirst in knowing God and to ready, expedient in living the faith. I like this verse because it reminds me that tho we (all of us) may have our own imperfections, our own sinful nature, we have hope in the exasperation of our sins--through Christ Jesus. Who lives in us who call Him as LORD and Savior.

Have you ever had an argument with someone, some people? I know I have had, and sometimes I've been guilty of keeping that hostility with people I've butted heads with. However, I've realized as I grew up (and aged) that it is important to take everything (what is said about you, what is done to you) with a grain of salt. Holding a grudge and hostility for too long is not good. For the body as well as for the soul within. I've personally realized this.

This particular verse in the HOLY BIBLE tells me the importance of letting everything go, and not keeping it.

Brothers and sisters,

Is there ever a time in your life where you doubt yourself? Where you think that your abilities will not come to par with the expectations of others, and with the responsibilities of the day? I'm sure even the greatest of thinkers and philosophers, scientists, poets, doctors, lawyers, to even the skilled carpenters etc doubt sometimes.

We doubt because we are unconfident with ourselves and our strengths due to the gargantuan task before us. Maybe it includes 50 some ledgers that an accountant has to finish in 2 days, perhaps its fixing a broken building wing for a skilled carpenter, treating 5 patients who are waiting for care for a doctor, or even, perhaps, its dealing with financial situations-- money problem, debt, lack of capital, etc.

Any of these can reduce a man , even with strong spirit , to doubt as well as avoidance of said problem. Why even great men of the Church such as St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Thomas, themselves doubted and questioned their own faith. These are apostles, who tho were filled with celestial joy of the Holy Spirit, were weighed down by the human limitations and preponderance to doubt. As doubting and questioning is part of the disposition of being man.

What I learn in reading the Holy Bible and from reading the lives of these three apostles is that there are instances that we will be challenged by the world, where our faith and our faith will be questioned.

Don't let the doubt overcome you, brothers and sisters. The world may overwhelm us at times, sure, it even did for the saints, however we have to find the strength to carry the day. Because in the  end, the carpenter builds the house with the help of other master carpenters; the accountant finishes his 50 or some ledgers , with the help of another coworker and blessed with hot black coffee. The doctor , with the help of residents and medical interns will see 20 or more patients in that time frame she was given.

Just as Peter, Paul and Thomas , themselves particulary doubting at first--but trusted the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, to guide them and to work in them, despite their human frailties, were able to accomplish the Will of Jesus Christ: To Spread the Good News.

Brothers and Sisters, don't doubt. Don't let the world overcome you.
Remember that Our Lord Jesus Christ has overcome the World.

This is definitely a verse that hits me to the core, which am sure it is for all of us. There are times that i find myself doing things , thinking of things that are contrary to Christian virtue, and to Christ's teachings of being repentant sinners. There are times in which i find myself falling into the sway of sin. But in such an instance, when being tempted, when feeling weak in the spirit...am reminded that God will never abandon us. Even when in a wretched state of being.

Did he not forgive Mary Magdalene? Even St. Paul?

So yes, we should (all of us) take time to sow and please the Spirit, for it is in the Spirit that we will reap eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Keep on fighting the good fight, brothers and sisters!

Today, I was blessed by God's Good Graces. I presented before the teaching staff at Northwestern University here in Chicago, the presentation was on Integumentary System. I was offered a position as clinical instructor for their Medical Terminology Class and their Basic EKG Class effective, which will start on May 2011. This is a part-time position.

I did not even expect to be offered an instructorship position, but was offered. Tinuod diay no, nga ang Grasya Sa Ginoo, it comes when it comes according to GOD's WILL.

So I shout in acclamation and give thanks to Him. The author of all good things.

All Glory, Honor and Praise be to Almighty God! The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I can be arrogant. I admit this. In my question for education and knowledge, pride grew. This is not good. As too much pride and assertion of one's abilities can strain one's relationship with the LORD. Knowledge/Wisdom that is acquired is not because of our own abilities, but by God's Grace.

I was reminded one time by a very direct old woman who gave me a verse that touched my heart. She is an old Filipina nurse who reminded me to be grounded.

I thank her for it.

The verse that she shared with me is from 1 Corinthians Chapter 8 verse 1-2.

Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias,
