Confidence
« on: November 22, 2009, 01:21:58 PM »
An excerpt from Fr. Jerry Orbos’ column, Moments.

In today’s Gospel (Jn. 18, 33-37) Jesus confidently answers all the questions hurled at him by Pontius Pilate. What made him so cool and confident through it all? Truth. Truth was on his side, so he had no fears and nothing to hide. A truthful person is confident and free. A person full of lies is fearful and trembling deep inside.

Face the light, and the shadow is behind you. Turn your back to the light, and the shadow will always be in front of you.” Knowing the truth and accepting the truth is the best road toward true confidence and freedom.

How many of us take the road of compromise and spend our whole lifetime vacillating between half and full commitment, ready to mouth our convictions for anyone and everyone to hear, but fold up and do otherwise when no one is looking or listening? The seat of our values must be deeper than what this world offers. We are not saints, but at least, we can be, and should be, truthful.

We all will face our King someday. What will we tell Him then? What will He tell us then? Yes, we all have a mission to accomplish in life. The mission is non-transferable and non-negotiable. And the mission is not indefinite. We all have a mission to accomplish and this cannot be bypassed nor postponed.

A moment with the Lord:

Lord, remind me that you are the source of all the confidence I need in life. Amen.

Gener, your message to us ushers the same message in Philippians Chapter 4, Verse 13:

"I can do everything through him who gives me strength."

The beauty and magnificence of this message resounds the importance of Truth
It is the truth, and the only truth. Truth in Christ Jesus.

As it is said in the Scriptures, "The Truth Shall Set You Free." {Veritas vos liberabit}

The Truth in Christ's Gospel sets us free from the sins of this world, the false teachings, and the heresies that have been ushered by many. It is in studying the Word of God and in conversing with like-minded individuals who have the same yearning to search for the meaning of God's Word--that will help us to continue in our life-long pilgrimage.

So, brothers and sisters, I will reiterate the same message that Paul reminds and shares with us in Philippians Chapter 3, Verses 7 to 11:

7But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. 10I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

I know a great surgeon in the hospital floor.

He is handsome, deliberate, confident, he delivers, he excels in all that he does.

A patient once asked him, "Dr., why are you so confident? You look good, you are intelligent, and you deliver what you promise, tell me the secret in your abilities? Do you think you are the best?"

The esteemed surgeon, in a smile and confident tone replied,

"Mrs______, I know what I am talking about because I attended a prestigious medical school, am board certified, in Cardiothoracic surgery and have trained and was trained by esteemed colleagues, I deliver because I have performed hundreds of surgeries and have excelled and perfected techniques by practice and repetition. I am confident, because Christ is my strength. And that I can do all things that I put my mind in for Jesus Christ is my Confidence."

The patient smiled. And was ecstatic to hear his reply.

He then performed a triple bypass on this said patient.
In the process, saving her life.

Point of the matter: CONFIDENCE IN CHRIST.  ;)
