As a catholic, i am very foreign to the concept of speaking in tongues. Worship in Catholic Church is different as that seen in new evangelical and pentecostal worship. I have attended some pentecostal churches with friends (who were pentecostal) and invited me to worship with them. I noticed that as soon as the minister starts preaching, and the church starts singing, there are members in that church that do peculiar things.

I observed this myself. It was new to me, because its not something that I see so regularly in Catholic Church Mass.

There was one person who got up and started to raise her hands to the air, and started praying in words that were intelligible. She was praying and singing at the same time. I asked my friend, and asked her what was going on? Is this regular? My friend told me that that person was touched by the Holy Spirit..and praying and speaking in tongues.

I was shocked. But in a good and interested way. It was beautiful because I've never seen anything like that before. Then moments later, other worshipers started doing the same thing. To my surprise, my friend , herself, got up and started doing it.

My question to everyone here is, to those who are Protestant (Evangelical), and worship in a pentecostal, evangelical christian church. What happens in such an experience? Do you have control over this or is this really being touched by the holy spirit?

Salamat.

Ang officiating priest sa last year's (2010) grand Feast kay nag speaking in tongues while celebrating the mass. Bitaw pud Bro, you made a very interesting question.

Ako on my part, before ka bunjagan sa Holy Spirit during our baptism sa YFC and SFC, irequest ka nga magpray to the Holy Spirit for gifts. Usa na ana ang speaking in tongues. Sa SFC may workshop ganing on Speaking in Tongues. ;D

Mao ra nay ahong ikatampo.

Thanks for that post bro. As I read further and take to heart the WORD OF GOD it is apparent in Scripture that there are indeed gifts that the Holy Spirit imparts on many of us. Some are speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongue, the gift of prophesy, to name the many.

The only time where I experienced such an exuberant spiritual joy never before experienced was during my 2007 Confirmation and blessing by His Eminence Bishop Donald Trautmann, the Bishop of the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania.

The group of Catechumens and I experienced this burning sensation in our heads , when we were blessed with Holy Oil and the descent of the Holy Spirit in our acceptance of Confirmation. I really cannot explain the sensation because it permeated beyond the forehead. If i could come close to explanation of the feeling..morag..it was a cooling effect, morag blissful peace that lasted throughout the duration of the Confirmatory Mass.

I would like to attend YFC , SFC sessions. I don't know if they have any in my area, but now you have me interested in attending what you shared with me. I would like to experience that feeling again.

Thanks Bro. God Bless You Always.
