Police have identified the robbery suspect who was gunned down as two of his cohorts escaped during a shootout with the owner of a Caltex Gas Station in Poblacion Norte, Batuan town Saturday afternoon.
S/Insp. Samuel Udtohan, chief of the Batuan PNP, told the Chronicle that the slain robber is identified as one Jeffrey Pacomios y Ecat, 21, a resident of barangay San Miguel, Dagohoy town.
Udtohan said the three bonnet wearing robbers aboard a Honda Wave motorcycle stormed the gas station at around 4 p.m. Saturday and held up one of its cashiers.
Pacomios attempted to rob the second cashier at the gas station's office but was fended off by the owner, one Lejarde Tajale y Binangbang who was armed with a .45 caliber pistol.
According to the account of Tajale, he already noticed the bonnet-wearing suspects even before they disembarked their motorcycle and held-up the cashier near the gas pumps.
Tajale, a licensed gun club member, immediately got his firearm and shot the robbers who were on their way to break into the gas station's office, Udtohan said.
Based on the police interview with the owner of the gas station, when the suspects where fired upon by Tajale, they retreated and boarded their getaway motorcycle.
However, Tajale gave chase hitting Pacomios on his left hip. One bullet fired by Tajale also hit the motorcycle's tire which exploded some 75 meters from the gas station.
The fleeing suspects were forced to abandon the motorcycle and Pacomios who was severely bleeding. Just a few meters from their abandoned vehicle the two other suspects chanced upon a habal-habal driver and seized the latter's yellow Ramstar motorcycle.
A responding team of Batuan PNP pursued the two suspects with the help of Carmen PNP.
The suspects were able to elude the trailing policemen. The yellow Ramstar was discovered by police on Sunday morning abandoned in barangay Vida Sur, Carmen town.
Pacomios, who was brought by elements of the Batuan Police Station to the Carmen District Hospital was pronounced dead on arrival.
The owner of the gas station said the suspects were able to take away P200.
Police investigating the incident have identified yesterday the owner of the Honda motorcycle that was used by the suspects and abandoned near the gas station.
A check made at the Land Transportation Office revealed the motorcycle's owner as one Rainer Reyes, a resident of barangay Estaca, Pilar town.
According to Udtohan, the cellular phone recovered from Pacomios showed a text message from a certain RR who was asking if the suspects had success in their "operation".(Bohol Chronicle)
