Water Crisis in Baclayon
« on: September 14, 2008, 10:35:43 PM »
By Sen Guingguing

Setting a self-imposed deadline, Mayor Alvin Uy tries to catch up with the Foundation Day celebration in November to finish the waterworks pipings from the giant water reservoir to the households.

The administration of Mayor Uy banks on the 285,625-gallon giant reservoir in barangay Payahan to solve the water supply problem in the municipality.

The mayor had already instructed the water supervisor to finish laying down the pipes before the Foundation Day celebration.

Maximizing the giant reservoir to solve the water supply problem was the campaign vow of the Alvin Uy-Marilyn Uy tandem in the May 2007 elections.

In two years since they assumed office in July last year, the tandem is making good of their promise to the people of Baclayon.

"Maximizing the giant reservoir to solve the water supply problem was the campaign vow of the Alvin Uy-Marilyn Uy tandem in the May 2007 elections."

maximizing a reservoir to any size can NEVER solve problems in water supply... there are only 3 ways to genuinely solve the problem of water supply: (1) plant trees; (2) plant trees, (3) plant trees (trees must be planted in watershed areas so that something will impede the flow of water when it rains and prevent the occurence of flash floods which is a result of free-flowing rain water that has no impediment such as trees)... continued extraction of water for consumption only HASTENs depletion of water supply, unless more trees are planted in watersheds. if planting is not done and cutting of trees remain unabated, there will be no more potable to drink in the next 30 years, or even less.
