King Leonidas of Sparta who held the pass at Thermopylae using 300 Spartan warriors and a mixed bunch of other soldiers numbering no more than 2000 aginst a Persian army estimated between 300,000 and 1 million strong. Yes he lost the battle (mainly due to treachery) but this action allowed the bulk of the Greek army to escape and later defeat King Xerxes and his Persian army.

Gengis Khan- Had the Largest Empire the world has ever known.

Dwight D. Eisenhower - Managed to merge multiple national armies with separate and self serving priorities into a victorious army that wiped out a military with superior technology and tactics. Most other great generals were only in charge of their own armies, Dwight had to contend with the politics of at least 3 countries to make WW2 winnable in Europe.
