I had a conversation with a friend (a baptist) regarding this rather interesting topic. Of course, notwithstanding, biblical verses were exchanged on our part. We agreed that the notion of afterlife does in fact exist, by nature of faith, that we know and see not with our physical eyes, but by the eyes of the eternal soul. Christ Jesus is the key to this salvation, definitely.
The next day, we held the same conversation with other believers and some agnostics and atheists.
One of the atheists asked a question that was issued to cause dismay , but my friend and I tackled this question head on.
His question was, "What if there is no after life, then what do you Christians do?"
But instead of giving into his accusatory question, my friend (the baptist) answered accordingly,
"Then, in that case, you and all of us will be dead. Devoid of life and thought. There won't be any thought of anguish or pain or pestilence on believing in a faith that did not save because, afterall, we will be dead. Devoid of abstract thought."
He then asked him in return,
"But, friend, what will you do when you die, at the moment of death there was still blackness. Then out of no where you are called out by name. And realize that there really is an afterlife. Too late..."
