What benefits can we have if we completed a certain fasting ? base sa Christian belief.


at August 11, 2010, our Muslim brothers & sisters will start to do fasting for the whole of holy month of Ramadan.   ::)

kinsa bay Pari, Madre, Pastor, Imam, ug uban pa..kay akoy nasa udtong totok na hapit na pasawop ang kaong adlaw ug hangtod karon wala ko kahibalo kong unsa ang akong maani sa dili pagkaon ug karne ug dili pag kilaw  sa buhi ug bahobahong kinhason ug uban pang kilawon sa panahong Simana Santa (sa Christiano) ug Ramadan (sa mga Muslim).

di ko pari, madre, etc., mr. vist.  but since i was raised a catholic and i'm a catolico cerrado who believes in fasting, may i share my two-cents' worth.  the primary reasons for fasting are both spiritual and physical.  almost all major religions in the world practice fasting, be they monotheistic religions or wisdom religions.

wisdom religions as i understand in general terms are hinduism, buddhism, zoroasterism, and even confucianism and shintoism.  these religions do not worship one god the way monotheistic religions (christianity, islam, judaism) do.  rather, they practice certain philosophies as a way of life to reach a level of absolute good.

All of these philosophies attempt as well to explain the origins of life. It may be noted in this regard that the proponents of intelligent design have an able expounder in Ann Coulter who devised the "Giant Raccoon's Flatulence Theory"... ;D
