Someone at worked asked me if i am "kuripot". When I asked why you would asked such a question, she said, "oh because the stereotype is that BOL-ANONs are kuripot."

I was so very insulted.

To add a different point of view to this thread, I want to share a true story. There is an old man who is an old friend of my grandfather's , a farmer who works the basaks in Valencia. He is what you would call "an all-around-businessman"; a farmer, a fisherman, a businessman, and family man; active in the buy and sell business of rice, as well as food products (he raises and sells pigs, too). This man has 4 sons, and was able to send all of his sons to college -- all four are now engineers with a very productive and active career. How did he send all four sons to C.I.T's College of Engineering? He saved. His one son is a district engineer in Cebu's Mandaue City, one son is an electrical engineer here in the United States and two sons are mechanical engineers in Saudi.

Education, truly, is key to success. Despite this man's birth in life (he came from a very, very poor family), his work ethic and ability to financially manage, influenced his sons' direction in their lives.

Kuripot si manong, but, hey, all his sons are engineers (two of them were board top-notchers)

You spoke truth to those people. Na uwaw sila because of their callous words in stereotyping you. Na uwaw sila because they know that you had the financial means to afford to buy two hectares worth of land. Which, I am sure, was hard earned and honestly earned.

They can only comment at you, but in the end of the day, you own the land and they don't.

On the contrary, I would say that people who save contribute greatly to their respective communities because those said banks utilize the capital for further investments. Bol-anons, by their shear ability to save, contribute greatly to the financial infrastructure of the province of Bohol and to the nation as a whole.

I would even dare say that Bol-anons are blessed with sound financial sustainability , coupled with long-term interests.
