Hmmmm, at one time I did think along the same line... and, maybe, I still do (LoL), especially when I get to see/meet/hear so-called well-educated people (with tails of Masters, PhDs or what-have-you) and acts as know-all-idiots and insist on being one in every sense of their being, ahihihihi

Hmm, not a bad analogy... But an apple is at least a treat to the palate, while a diploma is a treat only to the watery brains of masochists.

M.D's annual salary = $ 350,000 - $ 1,000,000 +
Required Education: 4 years of high school, 4 years undergrad, 4 years medical school, 3-4 years residency, + fellowship supraspecializations

Hospital janitor's annual salary = $ 15,000 - $ 20,000
Required education: +/- high school diploma

In this world, education is a necessity and requirement for professional advancement. There are nurses with a degree in BSN who go on to get their Ph.D in Nursing Education so that they can become hospital administrators , or directors of nursing education in universities/colleges. Again, education is key for professional advancement.

interestingly enough, priests are one of the most highly educated. 4 years high school, 4 years minor seminary, 4 years major seminary. religious education in the seminary takes as long as one pursuing his or her Ph.D education.

in fact, its faster to become a lawyer than a priest.

Nothing personal, Nong. It's just an example of work qualifications in nowaday's environment. The society here in the USA, and I'm sure in your area in Canada requires some kind of Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or even Doctoral Degree for advanced positions in the work field. It is very hard to make a living with no college degree in this society. The competition is just too high.

In fact, at Northwestern, where I am an adjunct clinical instructor, one student of mine, a former high school janitor, enrolled into the LPN program (Licensed Practical Nursing). In our quaint conversations he told me of the hardships in being a janitor, that education was really integral to advancing one's position in life. After several years as a janitor (this student of mine is in his late 30's), he decided to go to college and take up LPN and become a nurse. He is now in his 5th LPN class ; in his defense, he is a very sharp student. He said to me, "I should have gone to college when I was younger, instead of waiting.."

In regards to the last statement, I would hope that janitors aren't performing abortions. Not all doctors perform that, Nong, only in cases of medical emergencies eg, Ectopic pregnancies.
