My question is does einstein's relativity cause problems for eternalism? In particular do lorentz transformations and simultaneity make it impossible to have a simple 4d block that represents space and time?
With relativity each frame of reference sees a slightly different 4d block as their history. So to have the 4d block universe that eternalism requires it would mean somehow overlaying those 4d blocks in a messy pile which seems like it just wouldn't work.
I don't have experience with lorentz transformations apart from some light reading about them. But I seem to recall the observers see the universe at a different 'angle'. In other words the transformation equation just warps the universe at a slightly different angle depending on the observers speed.
If that's the case it gives me hope that eternalism could still use a 4d block with a "god's frame of reference" and the other frames of reference could be explained by a fairly simple shift in the 'angle' the observer uses as their timeslice.
What's your view on this?
