Mo share ko lang to the world (those who wish to hear and those who do not want to hear, don't read it):
One gets a proud and satisfying feeling in treating a patient, in identifying if the patient has an underlying disease, that can be treated. Or if we identify that the patient is acidotic, or alkalotic. When one is introduced to a patient who is pedriatic and in the ER and are given the honor to stittch the wound on that ptaient, caomfort them and given them a reason to smile and to look forward to. There is a miraculous feeling in this.
You go to the hospital floor. Everything that you read about in the text books..in neurophysiology, in cardiopathology, in general pathology, in embryology, in pharmacology etc. As a student one memorizes facts, and clinical signs, but it is different. When you are exposed to the setting, see the patient, feel the patient, everything changes.
You see there is such sacred relationship between the Doctor/Intern and the Patient. The patient goes to the doctor and offers his / her life and places it in your hand. This relationship and this precious bond is unique. Totally unique. Therefore, the gravity of this relationship requires and decrees proper and astute respect of that Doctor-Patient Interaction.
As a physician in training, medical interns are required to exude a level of confidence to their patient and the surrounding staff. You are required to talk and to explain in a calm and assertive manner. You are a student who has sacrificed and seen your years away, to the beauty of this profession. And such, due to the gravity of this profession and what it entails and what it REQUIRES and individual to do, one has to abide by the sacred and sanctified position of the medical provider.
Acting and talking in proper etiquette is mandated. Firm and Resolute. Conscious and Understanding. Firm and Resolute. We are reminded this time and time again by our instructors and by our learned Physician Peers so as to command the presence of the floor. And the nursing staff and allied health staff who complete the order. And to exude a level of control of the setting so as to provide the patient with some kind of restitution and comfort despite their ailing condition.
There is NO ROOM for unprofessional conduct in the hospital floor.
You want to talk and flirt, go outside in a diner, or in the cafeteria.
Lorenzo.
