I'm a big camper, and hiker. I love outdoors, specially spending the night in the woods--keeping a bonfire lit and just hanging with like-minded people. The best time to do this is in the fall, the mosquitoes are gone, and its cool at night. A great time to have a 'snuggle buddy' too.

:P

yes I do, my best place is at the beach.
I remember one night just once. The DI's of JJ's in 1998-99, just went to SVD beach in dumaluan after work. We had a bonfire, music, food and drinks. We practiced more variations of ballroom dancing like rumba, just bare feet in the sand. When we got tired, we just sat around the fire, talked and really bonded well. Little that we know the sun was already rising. We went home 8 in the morning had breakfast at hmm I forgot the name of the place near city hall food court gani sya, anyway. It was one of the fondiest memories we all had each other.

Not too much in the woods, just scared of lime disease in the US. But if it's in Bohol I don't mind.

what about you Ginger?

aguyYyy!

Ako? haaa! bisan mag dinner sa pantawan, is like heaven to me...

lunch sa ilawom sa narra tree, aguyYy!

yeah like Dodong Insoy im a big camper, hiker and runner too...

I went camping several times in my life, in big bear, lake ferris, san diego,  catalina island, napa, and back home too, etc. etc...

primitive or not primitive camping i love it...

in Catalina island naa silay camping area nga modern, then naa sad silay camping site nga primitive which i did once...

the place in catalina nga dili na ma reach by a car but by a small  boat na, no toilet, no water no nothing...so we brought our own...

that was my most unfogerttable experience nga nag dala mi among kaugalingon nga toilet paper and plastic bags for our s*** and everything,

kay it is a restriction to throw anything man anywhere...wasnt it fun? mura mi ug mga Flintstones?

ikaw Ger?

hahahahhaha (I almost have done all the crazy stuff in my life!)

 ;D

Of course! I love outdoor. Though I haven't been camping out lately but I am looking forward to do it again. My unforgettable camping experience was when we camped out in Davao for a week somewhere in Matina. I celebrated my birthday there and we only had hotcakes and dried fish. But it was really fun being out in nature.

I can't wait to go camping here in Norway. It would be another great experience.

Yes, I love outdoor kung dili tugnaw ;D

We had a 2 weeks camping holiday in summer 2006, and that was great. It's like, I'm away from trouble and problems. Very nice feelings.

Outdoors and nature are not only a source of recreation for me, but also a source of education and knowledge.

i have gone boating and snorkeling various areas of Bohol (i.e. Pamilacan, Cabilao, Anda, Balicasag) to hiking and treading the forests and hills of Bilar, Valencia, Garcia Hernandez, Corella, Sikatuna, Balilihan, Dimiao and Anda.

I Went camping for a month for my thesis at Bilar and Valencia (various sites like Lantang, Banderahan, Cambuyo, etc.) for my thesis. I spent it capturing bats, reptiles, frogs, and birds. But my thesis was mainly on bats. That was very memorable and most of all knowledge-expanding. I did my thesis in cooperation with the Soil and Water Conservation Foundation Inc.

I also went on an environmental assessment survey in the beaches of Anda... specifically the plight of the sea turtles in Anda.... and sand extraction. So, survey, meaning, lakaw lakaw sa beaches , mangitag nesting sites sa sea turtles.

I also became a consultant for a sea urchin and sea star thesis... and i went on samplings with them. I really am magnetized to outdoor and nature activities... and I hope to come back to do it soon.... I really really really miss it!

When you do decide to go in detail, pray can you do it in the Research Cooler thread, I also have a thread there on my current Biology Composition (Bachelor's Thesis). It is a pleasure to find another science major in here, are you an organismal biologist, molecular, ecological?

Again, I'm pleased to meet another scientist.

i am more ecological Lorenz. And I definitely would like to share my findings because this is also quite a relevant proof of the biodiversity of Bohol. :)

Ah. Ah. Nice. Nice. We share a similar interest, miss.
I'm currently doing research in the field of Paleolimnology.

Please, tell us more about Bohol's biodiversity.

Hehe... una unahan na lang ka nako ha... hehehe!

excerpt ni sa akong thesis RRL.

'In the faunal survey conducted by the Biodiversity Monitoring Team of Soil and Water Conservation Foundation Inc. (SWCFI) in the 11 barangays within the Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape (RSPL), a total of 196 fauna have been recorded. Twenty six species of bats, 13 species of non-flying mammals, 120 species of birds, 20 species of frogs, 7 species of lizards and 10 species of snakes were surveyed within the RSPL. (Pamaong, pers. comm., 2005) Despite the disturbances caused by conversion of forests to agricultural land, endemic species are still present.'

see, this was only conducted in 11 barangays and there is already high count of species... what more if all 47 towns of Bohol are surveyed?

na... ako ra unya ibutang ang details sa akong thesis sa research cooler thread kay mawala na ang thrill.... heheheheheh!

Glorious. 120 avian species? and let alone 20 species of frogs and lizards? What strikes me is that I never knew about this, I mean i knew that massive species formation must occur due to the fact that the Philippines is an archipelago, and as a result the effects of isolative reproduction takes its effect. Similar species that were once 'sisters' say eons ago no longer can breed due to changes in protein acceptors within the sugar and peptide backbone of the DNA strand. What thrills me is that from your research, there is causal conclusive evidence of further species dynamics due to the fact that this was only observed in 11 barangays in one island of the 7,000+ islands of the Philippines.

Glorious.

Anyone looking to do their doctoral thesis on ecological variance, streams ecology, limnology, avian studies etc would find the Philippines a perfect study site.

Ligz, I salute you for your informative abstract. Looking forward to reading the entire body.

You are welcome, Ligz, I'm very sure that you will do well in your Master's in Sustainable Tropical Forestry. We need more environmental specialists out there, and most of all, we need more women scientists in the male-dominated Environmental Studies. You're walking in uncharted territory, Ligz, and I know you will succeed in all you do. Lead the way!

Hope your studies are fine over there.
