Do You Have a Black Tongue?
« on: May 30, 2010, 01:25:12 AM »
People who have black tongues are the types of people who are quick to share or point out negatives about people who they have never even met before, are quick to condemn, and execute evil wishes. Are you like this?

Yes, I believe in black tongue not literally "gabaan" or with certain power. I know one, if someone hurt her she prayed hard and forgive that person. If she cries and was hurt, the person that inflicted pains will suffer certain kind of pains in his/her life.

It never failed.

I had heard something like this before from one of my Titas who told me about some superstitious folklore in the Philippines.
For me, di ko mo tuo aning superstition.

Ang rason nako, ai, ngano ma hadlok man ta sa tawo nga naa man ta sa Salvaccion ni Jesus Christ who is Lord. Gi ingnan ahong mga Tita sa ahong opinion sa matter and mo ingon sila nako nga naa konoy 'unexplainable' things sa Pinas nga tinuod jud kono. Pero for me, di man ko mo tuo ani.

Ug naa tay belief sa Ginoong Jesus Christ, there is no power or spirit that can affect you. For all authority in heaven and under heaven is in Jesus Christ Alone.

Di ko mo deny nga na intrigan ko sa point of view ug sa rason sa superstition.

Naa pood konong belief nga ug naay tawo nga itom nga dila, it is necessary to strike your shoulder and arms if they say anything complimentary to you kono. And the need to wear diamonds kono.

Para nako, this is borderline paganist superstition. Walay jamong biblical mandate for it. Na suko ahong Tita who told me about it that tinuod kono to, di man jud ko mo tuo ana.

Pero mo tuo ko ani:

That Jesus Christ is LORD.

That is true. There is a Grand Master that dictates everything.

Yes, indeed.

I was taken back baya when I was listening to one of the conversations at a Filipino Party, the topic was about ghosts and what not. And someone mentioned the notion of "Diwatas, Enkanta". I did not know what those were so I asked and they told me that Diwatas was the old Binisaya term for 'gods'.

Then it came to me that these terms and folklores are remnants of our old animalistic-paganist history prior to Christianization.

I did listen to the entire conversation as a means to soak up the cultural / oral history lesson. Interesting to listen to.

We are now on the modern world, however, there are still people that believe in the so called world of the unknown.

You are so right, Wolf. My father, who is a man of science and logic, has reservations in regards to superstition. He cautioned me once, "It is better to practice restraint than to denounce everything that you do not understand."

I did heed his wisdom and take everything with a grain of salt when hearing/listening to things. And as for superstitious beliefs, tho i may have personal objections to them, i will not deny that there are things that happen that are unexplained or unexplainable.

If we believe that there is a God of Love, then there is also a place for satan and his devils who may take up the powers of this world and the powers of these so called 'diwatas/ mga enkantas'.

Thus, it is better to incline our ears and attention to The Lord and His Goodness than to the powers of darkness....
