I am not, nor do I believe the superstitions in the Philippines. However, I was culturally sensitive when I was in the Philippines.

All the things they talked about: the use of the term 'pwera bujag', crossing over a burning bush once leaving a cemetary, etc.

I like to remain culturally sensitive despite not believing in said superstitions. Interesting kaayo.

When I was in Leyte , I overheard some family members talk about ghost stories and stories involving 'wakwaks', 'mananangal' etc. Tho i did not believe in these things, I refrained from stating my reluctance to believe in them. I remained quiet and listened to the stories to absorb the oral folklore. :)

Sure do. My mother arranges our house via feng shui for aesthetics purposes. How one arranges furniture gives added depth and space to the room(s).

No, I'm not. Superstitious is not anymore followed by the new generations. They are part of our colorful customs and traditions from our early colonizers.

No, I'm not. Superstitious is not anymore followed by the new generations. They are part of our colorful customs and traditions from our early colonizers.

That's exactly how I take some of the local superstitions in the Philippines, Mr. Daray. I take it all with a grain of salt, and am culturally sensitive to them. Tho i do not believe in them, i listen intently to the different kinds of superstitions, remedies etc as a form of oral folklore. A cultural experience, more so.

Some of these so called superstitions go back before Spanish colonial times--and hearing them reaffirms the region's notable animist / pagan past. Bringing to mind the saying, "the past comes to life".
