Alpha Sigma Phi in Bohol traces its roots back to Central Mindanao University in Musuan, Bukidnon. It was brought on Boholano Soil in 1965 and found its home at the Rafael Palma College (now University of Bohol). Alphans Freddie Graciosa, Carlos Buenachita, David Porticos and Norie Namoc organized the first Alphan community in the college by recruiting and persistently initiating students "the Musuan way". The initiations lasted
six consecutive weeks of psychological tests and weekends of hazing. The usual rendezvous was at the former "Gun Club" in Taloto, Tagbilaran City which is now where the First Consolidated Bank (FCB) main office is located.
There were 13 who survived the initiation and they comprise the pioneer Alphans of what would be known as the Theta Chapter: herbert Obenza, Tito Villanueva, Medong Aceron, Orlando Pizana, Adriano Damalerio (+), Jesus Garcia, Pepe Pacatang (+), Mar Dayo, Gary Suganob, Tito Torrefranca (+), Joe Javier (+), Cesar Copaler, and Pascual Cabando, Dr. Victoriano "Wil" Tirol, Liux Lofranco and Engr. Vir Ungab were the advisers and
honorary members of the newly organized Alpha Sigma Phi. Six years later, Vir Ungab and Liux Lofranco submitted themselves to the initiation procedures and became full-fledge Alphans.
In 1967 two Alphans from Bohol, Manuel Cempron and Valeriano Vitor joined the YMCA-sponsored leadership traning in Dasmarinas, Cavite. Being newly accepted, they proudly wore t-shirts with the Alpha Sigma Phi logo. It was how they were noticed by delegates from Cebu who also happened to be Alphans. The initial encounter was lukewarm understandably because of mistrust as to the authencity of the other. For one, they did
not share the common traditional triangle tattoo at the base of the right thumb. The triangular dot tattoo is of Musuan origin, like the Boholano Alphans, while the Cebu Alphans were initiated by the Silliman group. However, that initial encounter opened opportunities for future linkage and interaction between Alphans from Bohol, Cebu and Negros.
This later on bloomed into subsequent merging into one Alpha Sigma Phi Philippines, Inc.
In the succeding years, Alpha Sigma Phi consistently increased in number and became one of the most active fraternities on campus. It produced the best because it recruited the best. It sent representatives to various campus activities and won many awards in both academic and in literary competations. In 1971, the UB chapter allowed the affiliation of Saint James College (now Philippine Maritime Institute-PMI) and Holy Name College (later renamed Divine Word College, now Holy Name University) to the University of Bohol Chapter. Among the survivors were Brods Jun Lumanas, Jun Rebosura, Jun Bandala, Jun Columnas and Boloy Dominise.
