modernizing the philippine navy fleet doesnt mean that we have to stand toe to toe with chinese navy, which is im sure that we will be defeated even if our ships are modern and heavily armed considering the current fire power status of the chinese navy. The main purpose of deploying bigger and more modern philippine ships at west philippine sea is to have a presence of force, a credible force at west philippine sea, to enforce our rights of the potentially oil and gas rich region. if we dont have forces station there, they will just eventually take over this region. we will not be bullied, we will rise our flag there. it our pride!

Philippines is possibly going to get a Missile Frigate (Italian-Made). I hope this goes through!

Deep Water Patrol Vessel (DWPV)

This requirement came out during the recent visit to Italy of a Philippine delegation led by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin. The Philippine DND delegation signed an agreement with their Italian counterparts for possible purchase of Italian weapons systems. This visit include inspections of combat ready ships of the the Maestrale and Soldati classes of the Italian Navy, which are scheduled for retirement, with the earliest possibly by 2013. No indication of sales was made yet.

Lets bring back the Glory of the Philippine Navy! The airforce modernization must follow soon, at least 2 squadron of multi role fighters!

Green,

I am a fan of the current Aquino Administration because he is doing what no president post-Marcos was successful in doing-- which is the modernization of the Armed Forces. Aquino promised to provide new warships to the Philippine Navy and he is doing the following:

1. Provided the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (joined the Philippine Navy in 2011)
2. Acquisition of a 2nd US Naval Cutter Ship, the USS Dallas , which will officially join the Philippine Navy in late 2012
3. Acquisition of 8 SOKOL AttacK Air Craft
4. Acquisition of a squadron of F-16s

From what I hear, the United States is to be sending the Philippines a 3rd US Naval Coast Guard Cutter Frigate by 2013.

The Philippines is blessed with perfect defensive waters. Our extensive coastline makes a perfect defensive barrier against foreign ships. We do not need large blue water warships , we need fast attack frigates and corvettes armed with modern anti-ship, anti-air , and anti-submarine capability.

If the Philippine Navy arms its 3 Peacock Class Corvettes with Anti-ship missile battery systems, as well as anti-air and anti-submarine capability, augment all patrol ships with anti-ship missile batteries, then we would have an effective defense-oriented navy.

The Philippines is not looking to invade foreign soil or intrude foreign waters, we are looking to uphold and to protect our national territory and uphold the UNCLOS-supported 200 EEZ territorial claim we have to the Spratlys and to the Kalayaan Islands.

With 3 Hamilton Class Cutter Frigates armed with harpoons and phalanx guards, this would augment the defensive firepower of the Philippine Navy. If the Philippine Navy can acquire 3-4 more missile corvettes of frigates in addition, then our navy would become an "All-out-ready defensive force".
