A Filipina was fined Dh2,000 (P23,748) by a United Arab Emirates court for throwing her shoe at a taxi driver who she saw urinating near her house last February.
But the Dubai Misdemeanors Court also sentenced the taxi driver to nine months in jail for peeing in public and for assaulting the Filipina's roommates, UAE news site Gulf News reported.
It added Thursday’s ruling is subject to appeal within 15 days.
The report cited prosecution records showing the Pakistani taxi driver allegedly parked his taxi under the building and stepped out to urinate when the Filipina saw him from the balcony.
She threw her shoe at the driver when he refused to stop peeing. The shoe hit the taxi windshield and shattered the glass. The cabbie got angry and scolded the Filipina.
He then asked his friends to go up with him to the flat to assault the Filipina. When they bumped into her two Moroccan roommates, they attacked them with a pocketknife and a screwdriver.
This prompted prosecutors to accuse the driver of committing a lewd act in public and for assaulting the Filipina's roommates. They also charged the Filipina with wrecking the glass.
The Dubai Misdemeanors Court sentenced the the taxi driver to six months in jail for urinating in public, and three months and a Dh2,000 fine for assaulting the roommates.
Also, the Pakistani will be deported following the completion of his punishment.
When the driver showed up in court, he admitted urinating in public but denied the charge of assaulting the roommates.
For her part, the Filipina confessed she hurled her shoe at the driver because he refused to stop peeing and shouted at her. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
