Newly-elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi
« on: July 02, 2012, 06:03:23 AM »
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas phoned the newly-elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi Sunday amid expectations of an imminent meeting between the two men.

Abbas thanked Morsi "for his positions that support the Palestinian people," as well as Egypt's efforts to broker a Palestinian national reconciliation, said a statement from Abbas' office.

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources said contacts are being made to arrange for a meeting between Abbas, who is also head of the secular Fatah party, and Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

According to the sources, Morsi is willing to see Abbas among the leaders he will first meet after he took office to express his support to the Palestinian cause.

Abbas is locked up in a power struggle with Islamic Hamas movement, which routed his forces and took over the Gaza Strip in 2007. Hamas' historical roots stem from the Muslim Brotherhood.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
