India is likely to float one of the world's largest tenders for acquiring multirole helicopters for its
Navy at an estimated cost of over 4 billion U.S. dollars, local media reported Saturday.
The tender would be part of the Indian Navy's plans to acquire more than 75 such choppers to meet the demand of its expanding area of operations, and is to issue a global Request for Proposal
soon.
"The Indian Navy would require more than 75 of these Naval Multi-role Helicopters and this would be world's largest tender for multi-role helicopters," U.S. defense major Lockheed Martin's vice president George Barton was quoted as saying.
The Navy may use the choppers to carry out anti-submarine warfare,
special forces' operations and anti-submarine and anti- surface warfare, the reports said.
