Japan's Environment Ministry said Friday that it will stop accepting state financial relief applications on July 31 from victims of Minamata disease, which was caused by mercury pollution.
The ministry set the deadline to reflect the time needed to screen applications, officials said.
Under special legislation enacted in 2009, the government must determine the victims who are entitled to state redress within three years of the start of applications in May 2010.
