5IB mediates in Lumbatan local election
Army operating troops of the 5th Infantry “Duty Bound” Battalion arbitrated between the registered voters and electoral board in Lumbatan, Lanao Del Sur on May 10, 2022.
Some supporters refused to surrender the vote-counting machines (VCMs) and election materials, making it difficult to be transported to Marawi City for official counting. Upon hearing random gunshots around the area, the local Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office requested for assistance to retrieve the VCMs and transfer it to the provincial capitol. The 5IB, along with the 12th Civil Military Operations (CMO) “Kapatiran” Battalion, immediately responded to the voting area for reinforcement and transmission of the ballots.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded the 5IB and 12th CMO Battalion in remaining true to their call of duty to serve the people and secure the elections in their area of responsibility. Lt. Gen. Brawner further reiterated that the government troops continue to protect the polls especially during emergency situations.
