Uniting the Kingdom and the States: The Transatlantic CableUniting the Kingdom and the States: The Transatlantic Cable
"Uniting the Kingdom and the States" is the first of four 60-second advertisements created for Citi by BBC Advertising and independent production company, Tern. These ads, filmed in documentary style, will be broadcast on BBC World News during the commercial breaks of the Citi-sponsored series, "One Day In..." which profiles a dozen of the world's greatest cities. They can be seen during the run of the series on BBC World News through mid November. This first advertisement tells the story of the first cable, laid across the Atlantic in 1866, to successfully convey messages from London to New York and explains how this achievement helped to make the two cities the dual epicenters of world finance. In the coming weeks, the rest of the advertisements will appear--on the Citi-related topics of: The ATM and Citi Smart Banking, the Panama Canal and world trade, and rebuilding projects in Europe (via the Marshall Plan) and New York City.
