People, LGUs clamor for power restoration
Tacloban City (October 1 2006) -- Rapid normalization, full restoration of power is as much the clamor of the government as it is the people’s. No less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has made a directive to the concerned government agencies and private entities to effect the full restoration of power supply in Metro Manila within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Typhoon Milenyo was the strongest typhoon to hit Metro Manila in eleven years but it does not qualify as among the worst natural disaster to hit the country. The metropolis and the country as a whole have survived the typhoon Milenyo largely intact, if badly shaken. Thanks to the disaster preparedness efforts of government and cooperation and support of the private sector.

In the aftermath of the typhoon, there are many things to attend to, each one competing for the attention of the government leaders. The 61,000 people who were displaced need to be housed and fed and attended to lest there be an outbreak of typhoon-related diseases. Those who lost their homes need help to rebuild. Streets have to be cleared of debris.

Power, water, telephone and other communication services need to be restored as quickly as possible. It is noteworthy to mention that power and communication facilities have been restored in most parts of the metropolis, thanks to the support and hardwork of the men from the National Disaster Coordinating Council, the Department of National Defense, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Department of Public Works and the private entities concerned.

Yet reality of the situation tells, that there are some blown down power lines which will take more time to repair because electrical lines got entangled up with fallen tree branches. And so, a little understanding and a little more prudence are requested from the affected individuals in the stricken areas.

Once the situation normalizes and when the urgent needs are attended to, the leaders will once again turn their attention to enacting measures that will mitigate the effects of typhoon and other natural disaster wherever possible. (PIA 8) [top]

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
