Thelma Unite: From Hong Kong with Love

The Care@Unite Foundation, founded by Thelma G. Unite on July 2003, is a non-profit, non-religious, volunteer-based charitable foundation which provides financial and educational assistance through scholarship to under-privileged children in Ballesteros, Cagayan. The Foundation further delivers requested educational resources and equipment directly to public-based Day Care centers, schools, colleges and libraries in the Philippines.

Mission
The Foundation exists to promote and provide excellence in education to the under-privileged children of Ballesteros. The Foundation believes that the educated child has the brightest future.

Thelma Sings at Chater Garden, 051023 - AFreight Forwarders invited Thelma to sing at their 20th Anniversary at Chater Garden in Hong Kong. "Bumangon Ka Pilipino" and "Problema Mo Ay

Kalimutan" were well received by over 500 people at the open air concert. 50 demo CD's of the upcoming album "From Hong Kong With Love" were given out to the crowd.

HOW U CAN HELP?
The current cost to ship a Surex Mega Box is HK$450. Surex have been generous by lowering their cost by 22% and shipping some boxes on credit.

As of July 1, 2005, the Foundation is 10 boxes or HK$4,500 behind in payment to Surex. 10 boxes filled with donated books, materials and equipment are currently in Surex's warehouse. In addition, 22 more boxes containing 44 computers recently donated by HKIS will need funding as well.

If you would like to pay for the boxes directly, please contact Jenny, Surex (HK), (852) 2417-7021/7002, to arrange the payment. Please mention that the payment is for the "Care@Unite Foundation Box."

Certainly, if you have a better and less expensive way to ship the boxes back to Ballesteros, please let me know at [email protected] . Do you know that it costs less than HK$500 to send a child to Day Care for the entire year? This amount of money will pay for all tuition, nutrition, and all other fees.

Do you know that the current salary of a Day Care Teachers is HK$300 per month? Just thought you might like to know.

Educational Scholarship
The purpose of the Educational Scholarship Committee is to determine and recommend students requiring financial need for approval of the Board of Trustees. The disbursement of the scholarship shall be direct disbursement of tuition and fees to the applicant's school.

The Foundation is currently in its third year of providing scholarship to 19 students.

Special Needs Assistance
The purpose of the Special Needs Assistance Program Committee is to provide assistance to children with disabilities by loaning materials and applicable equipment and to provide training and information to parents of children with disabilities.

While the intent is to provide assistance to children with disabilities, the Foundation is currently thin on funds and volunteers so this project is on hiatus.

Technology
The purpose of the Technology Committee is to determine the technology needs and allocate the necessary resources to establish and administer a technology program.

By far, this project is the most active with generous donations primarily from Hong Kong International School and Chinese International School. The number of computers donated have far exceeded the Foundations initial vision of providing one computer per school. Most schools now have at least two computers.

As of July 2006, the Foundation have received and distributed over 220 computers.

Library
The purpose of the Library Committee is to determine the school library needs and allocate the necessary resources to establish and administer the libraries.

Within the last three years, CUF collected over 15,000 books and established one library.

FUND RAISING
The purpose of the Fund Raising Committee is to solicit and raise funds, equipment, materials and other resources from individuals, groups, and corporations.
