Success stories showcased at Pintados Kasadyaan Festival fairs
Tacloban City (26 June 2005) -- In connection with the fast approaching
Tacloban City Fiesta, Leyte Gov. Carlos Jericho Petilla in coordination with the Leyte Pintados Foundation and various government agencies plays host to the Pintados Kasadyaan Fairs with the honorable congresswoman of the first district of Leyte Remedios L. Petilla as the chairperson.
With the Old Children's Park as the venue, the Fair was designed to showcase success stories of regional development in terms of technology and heavy industries, locally produced goods, agri-aqua, trade and tourism, in line with the thrusts and programs of the Arroyo administration. The brainchild of the First District of Leyte Congresswoman Remedios L. Petilla who is known for her determination and her pioneering many successful projects, the Fair hopes to provide a venue for the enterprising Leyteno to find opportunity to do business, promote culture and history of the province and to rev up all the engines of development in the region that will serve as inspiration to the people especially the disadvantaged sector.
The Agri Aqua Fair highlights the fish cages in the booming Mariculture Industry of the Region. Milkfish which is now abundant in the region because of the fish cages are available for sale together with other value added marine products. A model farm house tagged as FAITH (Food Available in the Home) with vegetable garden complete with fishpond, poultry and piggery is also exhibited, a very good answer to the Food Security program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Vegetable, fruits, poultry and livestock including goat and lamb are also available for sale.
The Global Development Exhibition showcases the production processes of the different industries in Leyte like the New Leyte Edible Oil of Tanauan, Leyte which manufactures cooking oil for export, the Cal Energy, PASAR, PNOC, NPC, Leyeco II and other locators in Leyte. It makes any Leyteno proud to know that Leyte provides 60 percent of the Geothermal energy generated in the five geothermal sites in the country. This means that even if the other four sites are combined, the geothermal power generated in Leyte is still higher.
The trade fair billed as Port Fair or the Peoples Organizations Regional Trade Fair, highlights the products of the successful Peoples Organizations all over the region. Grouped together adhering to the principle of strength in coming together, these peoples organizations serve as an inspiration to the People of Region VIII as a very good example of Empowered Filipinos. Most of these peoples organizations were formed to respond to the economic need of the members Products on sale ranges from handicrafts made from local materials, handmade papers from banana pulp, abaca products, processed food like the preserved tahong shell, local delicacies, costume jewelries and coconut products like virgin coconut oil and its by products, white cheese, culinary virgin coconut oil, cocowater vinegar and many others.
Leyte, the whole of Eastern Visayas is truly blessed. It takes such undertakings like the Pintados Kasadyaan Agri-Aqua, Industrial and Trade Fair to make people realize this. And it takes people like Cong. Petilla, Governor Petilla and the government and non-government organizers to make it happen. (PIA-8)
