Reds infiltrate 20 towns of Masbate--says PNP official
MASBATE CITY, Oct. 1 2002 (PNA) -- The New People's Army (NPA) has
infiltrated almost all towns in this island province.
This was the warning issued by Police provincial director Romeo
Mapalo here after an intelligence report said the communist group has
already gone through the whole province of Masbate including Burias
and Ticao islands here.
Mapalo said the insurgent group here is led by Roberto Torres
alias "Ka Boy."
Records from the military showed there are 37 villages classified as
influenced, 77 infiltrated and 112 threatened here.
Despite the additional deployment of government soldiers here, the
number of rebels still rise in this island province.
Before the synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections
last July, Governor Anthonio Kho had asked to Southern Luzon Command
(SOLCOM) chief Roy Kyamko to deploy additional soldiers to neutralize
the growing numbers of the communist guerillas here.
A couple of months ago, suspected members of the communist rebels
also raided and put ablaze two sleeping quarters and heavy equipment
of the Precious Construction Company at Sitio Cabiloan Barangay
Luy-a, Aroroy town.
The rebels also burned a pay loader, a forward truck, two dump
trucks and a road compactor. The damaged to property and construction
equipment was placed at P7 million.
The rebels are also planning liquidation schemes against government
informants.
As this developed, Chief Supt. Rodolfo Tor, the Bicol PNP police
director, ordered his men to keep on guard and intensify police
visibility in their respective areas to prevent any untoward
incidence.
Report said the rebels are planning to launch offensive attacks
against government soldiers including police headquarters in the
region. (PNA)
