STUDENTS of Tagbilaran City Science high school brought home the bacon during the recently concluded 2006 City Division Schools Press Conference held at Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, Oct. 18-20. The three-day press conference bared the theme “Promoting A Culture of Peace through Responsible Journalism.”

The following were the winners: Ronn Patrick Guingguing – Newswriting English (1st place) and Sports Writing Filipino (5th place), Easterlyn Benigay – Feature Writing English (5th place), Maelori Krista Nambatac – Editorial Writing English (3rd place), Darrel Malto – Editorial Cartooning Filipino (3rd place) and Kathryn Socias – Feature Writing Filipino (2nd place). Together with the team was their coach Marilyn Ucat. The winners will represent Tagbilaran City in the Regional Schools Press Conference here at Tagbilaran City this coming November 27-29. Meanwhile, Maria Vichelle Torrejos, a senior student of TCSHS, won second place during the 6th Regional Population Education Quiz held at EcoTech Center , Lahug, Cebu City , October 10.

Equipped with the knowledge about family planning and sex education, Torrejos went on to the battlefield and struggled against 14 other contestants from the different divisions of Central Visayas to outsmart them in the contest sponsored by the Population Commission (Pop Com). She was awarded a trophy, a certificate and Php3,000. Her coach, Angelita Barcebal and Popcom coordinator and supervisor Genoveva Arangoso accompanied her to the contest venue.
