Gov't remains focused on achieving economic goalsBy Ninfa B. Quirante
Tacloban City (28 June 2005) -- While the government acknowledges the growing hardships of our people, the government continuously seeks all means to lessen the impact of socio-economic pressures by helping the economy generate more investment and job opportunities; instituting reforms to maintain fiscal stability and implementing pro poor programs.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said that, "we remain focused in achieving our economic goals and no amount of political squabbles and attepmts to discredit the government will start in our own way to improve the living conditions of ordinary people, especially in the face of rising oil prices."
As the administration is besieged with controversy and somehow is weakened by questions on its legitimacy, the government opts to work hard to maintain the economic fundamentals remain stable.
As regards the destabilization plot, Bunye maintained that a proper forum is handling this matter and that we must respect its rulings. He just hoped, he said, that the ongoing investigation would not be further exploited thus, fueling political unrest or media hype.
The Secretary continued saying that, "the release of Tarongoy has taught the country a lesson by staying the course against all odds; the government has won the struggles to release Tarongoy. It was his courage and perseverance in the Iraq crisis that sealed our victory."
He reminded the public once more that Filipinos must always strive to be as hardy and persevering in meeting all challenges. Like Robert Tarongoy, unwavering faith will carry us through all trails. (PIA)
